World Bank president Robert Zoellick says the United States economic power is decreasing as a result of the financial crisis.

"One of the legacies of this crisis may be a recognition of changed economic power relations." said Zoellick who was speaking in Istanbul before meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, BBC reported.

The talks are being held about how to reorganize the leadership of the WB and IMF so that they better reflect the diversified world.

"A multi-polar economy less reliant on the US consumer will be a more stable world economy," Mr Zoellick said.

The US has been in recession for nearly 2 years and other economies for example China and Brazil are still in the rise.

Unemployment in the US has also surged to a new 26-year high of 9.8%.
