    California Focus Campaign

    California

Mission: To ask all California lawmakers to support and pass Assemblyman Chuck DeVore's amendment bill (AB 175 which stops illegal aliens from receiving in-state tuition benefits while making those benefits available to our National Guard and soldiers. 3/25/08 Re-referred to the Committee on Veterans.

Mission: Contact the California State Senate and ask them to oppose passage of "AB 2083, the California DREAM Act, requires the California State University system and the California Community Colleges and requests the University of California to provide financial aid – including grants, scholarships, work-study offers, and loans – to all qualified students who are exempt from nonresident tuition."

    Messages:

I am calling/writing to ask that Senator ________ please oppose and defeat AB 2083, the California DREAM Act because Illegal aliens should not receive financial aid, including grants, scholarships, work-study offers, and loans. Foreign nationals should be paying international tuition rates and should not be placed on equal footing with American students, which AB 2083 will cause competition for limited college seats, available funds and financial assistance.

"I am calling/writing to ask that Assemblyman ________ please support and pass Chuck Devore's amendment bill (AB 175. Illegal aliens should not receive in-state tuition. Polls show that over 80% of Americans oppose in-state tuition for illegal aliens. AB 1758 would correct this and establish this benefit for our military and national guard troops instead. I will be watching the votes carefully when this bill is heard on March 4. Please support and pass AB 1758"

    LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST

    Local government finance: vehicle
    license fee revenues: sanctuary cities.
The Vehicle License Fee (VLF) Law establishes, in lieu of any ad
valorem property tax upon vehicles, an annual license fee for any
vehicle subject to registration in this state. Under existing law,
the Controller is required to allocate VLF revenues in the Motor
Vehicle License Fee Account in a specified order to cities, counties,
    and cities and counties.
This bill would require that vehicle license fee revenues not be
allocated to any city that is declared to be a sanctuary city, as
defined. This bill would state the intent of the Legislature to enact
legislation that would create a specified fund in the State
Treasury, for the deposit of VLF revenues that would otherwise be
allocated to a sanctuary city, for the purpose of providing grants to
cities that would like additional law enforcement training, as
    specified.

    Vote: majority. Appropriation: no.

    Fiscal committee: yes.

    State-mandated local program: no.
