    Carlsbad, CA Focus Campaign VICTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ****Completed****

    Synopsis
The dozens of migrant laborers living in makeshift camps along Cannon Road near Agua Hedionda Lagoon were removed by the Carlsbad Police Department has said.

Local groups are pressuring the city council to pay for houseing facilities for farmworkers. Critics, including some City Council members, have said housing for farmworkers could take away funds from other city residents. But the plan has also enjoyed support from some residents, churches, city officials and businesses who say farmworkers in Carlsbad are residents, too, contributing to the local economy. A select group benefits from this houseing and that is farmers and farm labor.

    Update!
The three farmworkers were among the last people living in an unauthorized migrant camp off Cannon Road east of Interstate 5 last week. After the last couple dozen inhabitants had been given a month's notice to leave the site, police tore down the encampment shanty by shanty this week, Carlsbad police Cpl. Kevin Lehan said. The company that owns the land where the camp stood plans a cleanup of the debris soon.

In Carlsbad, where as many as 500 farmworkers and day laborers are believed to be homeless, two recent attempts to develop housing were thwarted after objections from property owners.

There remains a hiring center in Carlsbad.

    Activist Instructions

We need ALIPAC Activists to make calls, send letters, faxes, and e-mails to all members of the Carlsbad Council asking them to please pass the ordinances to prevent illegal aliens from city employment and rental properties. You may want to share with them some articles about what other cities are doing and some of the problems and public attitudes (polls) about illegal immigration.

Also ask them not to aid and harbor illegal aliens by building houseing for farm labor with tax payer funds.

    Examples
    Dear Councilman _________:

I am calling/writing today to ask you to please follow the lead of Hazelton, PA and pass strict immigration enforcement measures in Carlsbad as soon as possible. The federal government is not adequately securing our border or enforcing our existing immigration laws. I feel it is incumbent upon our states and cities to take action to protect communities from illegal immigration. Illegal immigration has many negative repercussions for our communities including depressed wages, increased health care costs, increased costs to taxpayers, increased crime, infectious diseases, and lost American jobs.

I hope you will stand with the vast majority of Americans that want our laws enforced and our communities and tax dollars protected from illegal aliens.

Please pass these ordinances as soon as possible. A majority of your constituents support this effort.

    Thank You,
