    Herndon, VA Focus Campaign Victory!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Herndon, VA has passed many ordinances for discouraging illegal immigration in their community. A 287(g) program, prohibit contractors from hiring illegals, discourage illegal immigrants from living near Dulles Airport and checking for ID of people using the day labor center.

The memorandum of agreement with ICE will be considered for adoption and implementation following a public hearing March 13 at 7 p.m. in council chambers.

    Synopsis

A proposal was approved to give some of its police officers Immigration and Customs Enforcement training.

Since 1996, the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act has authorized the U.S. attorney general to enter into an agreement with any state or municipality to train officers to enforce federal immigration laws. Local law enforcement officers receive immigration enforcement training, called "287(g) cross designation training," through BICE, which is part of Homeland Security.

The other two resolutions, currently being drafted by the Herndon Town Council, would "enforce procedures to ensure that town contractors do not hire illegal aliens" and that "illegal aliens do not receive business licenses from the town."

    October 12th
Town Manager Stephen F. Owen will add language to contracts that will prohibit contractors from hiring illegals and requires business-license applicants to sign a notarized statement saying they are eligible to work legally in the United States.
    Measure passed October 12th

    Nov. 28, 2006 Re-Opened Campaign
He said Councilwoman Connie Haines Hutchinson had asked him to research the possibility of "taxing or regulating the transfer of money sent to other countries." He said that more time was needed to research the issue.

He then addressed a proposal put forth by Councilman Bill Tirrell that would prohibit illegal aliens from obtaining building permits and other services. Kaufman told the council that there did not appear to be any Dillon Rule authority and that "people should not be discouraged to apply for the safety-based permits."

    Dec. 17th
Herndon will continue to print some official town documents in Spanish, according to its mayor, effectively tabling a proposal by a Town Council member to publish only in English as a way of prodding Hispanic immigrants to learn the language.

The council has passed a series of measures in recent months to discourage illegal immigrants from living and working in Herndon, located near Dulles International Airport.

The council is looking for a new operator for its day-laborer center who will ensure that workers seeking jobs are in the country legally and has also voted to require contractors to certify that their employees are legal.

    Activist Instructions

We need ALIPAC Activists to make calls, send letters, faxes, and e-mails to all members of the Herndon Council asking them to please pass the ordinances to prevent illegal aliens from being hired by contractors and do not receive business licenses from the toen. You may want to share with them some articles about what other cities are doing and some of the problems and public attitudes (polls) about illegal immigration.

    Examples

    Dear Councilman _________:

I am calling/writing today to ask you to please pass the immigration enforcement measures in Herndon as soon as possible. The federal government is not adequately securing our border or enforcing our existing immigration laws. I feel it is incumbent upon our states and cities to take action to protect communities from illegal immigration. Illegal immigration has many negative repercussions for our communities including depressed wages, increased health care costs, increased costs to taxpayers, increased crime, infectious diseases, and lost American jobs. So I ask that you please pass the proposals to ensure that town contractors do not hire illegal aliens" and that "illegal aliens do not receive business licenses from the town."

I hope you will stand with the vast majority of Americans that want our laws enforced and our communities and tax dollars protected from illegal aliens.

Please pass these ordinances as soon as possible. A majority of your constituents support this effort.

    Thank You,

Document outlines costs of training program

A draft of the Herndon Police Department's proposed memorandum of agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was made public last Thursday.

If approved by the Herndon Town Council next week, the agreement will enable selected Herndon police officers to undergo a five-week training program that will eventually empower them to perform certain functions of a federal immigration law enforcement officer.

Herndon to send officers to federal immigration enforcement program

This northern Virginia town plans to send at least seven officers to a federal program that trains police officers to enforce U.S. immigration laws, despite concerns from critics.
