Emergency food storage: Preparing for calorie shortages

Preppers work hard to prepare for different daily challenges and survival scenarios. One way you can prep before SHTF is to stock up on foods high in calories to prevent a calorie shortage.
Before things go south, stock up on essential food supplies like beans, grains and freeze-dried vegetables. (h/t to TheProvidentPrepper.org)
Store your food supply in a room that is cool, dark and dry. Ideal storage conditions can help extend the shelf-life of these foods and give you a usable storage life of at least 25-30 years.
Beans
Beans contain protein, complex carbohydrates and fiber. They are considered a powerhouse of nutrients.
When beans are combined with a grain, they provide your body with all the essential amino acids and form a complete protein. Store a variety of beans so you have a variety of ingredients when SHTF.
Here are different kinds of beans to stock up on:
- Black beans
- Chickpeas
- Kidney beans
- Lentils
- Navy beans (white beans)
- Peas
- Pinto beans
Dehydrated or freeze-dried vegetables
When buying supplies for your stockpile, make sure you get a variety of dehydrated or freeze-dried vegetables. Use these ingredients to make soups and broths after SHTF.
Compared to freeze-dried food, you get almost three times as much dehydrated food in a can. However, dehydrated food tends to shrink dramatically during the dying process. Freeze-dried foods maintain much of their original size.
Grains
Grains are a great way to provide foundational nutrients and calories to your survival diet and including a variety of grains will diversify the nutrients in your diet.
Many grains can be soaked, cooked and eaten without grinding into flour. If you have a grain mill, you can use grains to bake different items like bread and tortillas. (Related: Stockpiling made easy: The ultimate guide to food preservation.)
Where to get lab-verified supplies for your food stockpile

That's why we're proud to introduce items like Freeze-Dried Organic Chopped Kale, Freeze Dried Organic Peas and Mega Bucket Organic Red Lentils.
Health Ranger Select Freeze-Dried Organic Chopped Kale can be stored for up to 10-15 years, depending on storage conditions. Keep it in a dark, cool, low-humidity location and it will last for an extended duration.
Loaded with a variety of important nutrients, our premium chopped kale is carefully grown by our trusted suppliers under strict organic standards. It then undergoes a freeze-drying process that preserves the original taste, texture and nutrients of our premium kale.
Available in convenient #10 cans, Health Ranger Select Freeze-Dried Organic Chopped Kale contains no gluten or GMOs and is lab tested for glyphosate, heavy metals and microbiology. It is also non-China and has been certified Kosher and organic.
You can also try Freeze Dried Organic Peas from the Health Ranger Store. Our freeze-dried, non-GMO peas are grown in the USA under strict organic standards.
The freeze-drying method preserves the taste, texture and nutrients of peas better than any other food preservation method ever invented.
Lastly, the Health Ranger Store offers Mega Bucket Organic Red Lentils. This item is 10lbs of product, sealed into 5 x 2lb packages and stored in a 2 gallon bucket.
These certified organic red-split lentils are the perfect low-cost, high-nutrition solution for healthy living and food preparedness.

Update on Health Ranger’s Hurricane Helene relief fundraiser – It’s not too late to help!

As the bad news – and the death toll – from Hurricane Helene continues to rise, many Americans are wondering how we can help people who are suffering.
Right now, the Health Ranger Store is carrying out a relief fundraiser, and we are proud to announce that the first round of food will be sent to those in need today, with more to come early next week.
For every emergency storable food bucket people buy, the Health Ranger Store is donating one of equal value to hurricane victims. The buckets contain weatherproof and waterproof vacuum-packed food bricks filled with important and nutritious sustenance such as flax seeds, rice, oats, quinoa, and nuts. All the food is lab tested and certified organic, and the buckets they are stored in can also be used to transport water, which can be incredibly useful in a number of emergency situations.
Ten pallets of this desperately needed food will be sent out today via helicopter, with at least 20 more pallets expected to be sent out early next week. Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, recently shared a video on Brighteon in which he walked through the warehouse and showed what the buckets contain and how they are preparing to get them to those in need as quickly as possible.
So far, $146,000 worth of food has been donated, and this is expected to surpass $200,000 soon. Although the idea is to send an identical bucket to each one purchased to hurricane victims, it may be necessary to substitute a bucket of equivalent value if supplies run out; if the bucket inventory is exhausted, the Health Ranger Store will make an equivalent cash value donation to a qualified non-profit that is helping hurricane victims.

Hurricane and flooding victims are not getting the support they need
Unfortunately, many people in North Carolina and other affected states are still cut off from food sources as bridges and roads remain washed out, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency is not coming through for them. FEMA just announced that it is running out of money, and victims are already reporting that they are struggling to get the aid they need.
After spending $1.4 billion on migrants, the agency will not be able to help Americans through the remainder of the Atlantic hurricane season due to a lack of funds. The Biden-Harris administration has been looking out for its own interests from the start, so it’s up to us to find a way to survive and to help our fellow Americans when disaster strikes.
Adams warned in his warehouse tour that difficult times are coming. It’s clear that we can’t rely on the government, and the writing is on the wall in terms of what we are going to face in the near future. Between the banking collapse, rising violent crime, mass illegal immigration and global war, we are very much on our own.
“We need to save America together, and that starts by saving the American people who are in their time of dire need right now,” he said.
Help others while preparing your family for emergencies
The fundraising effort will be continuing through midnight CST on Monday, October 7, so it is not too late to take a step that will not only help those in desperate need right now but also help you prepare for similar catastrophes. Check out the food buckets and learn more here.

Why Gen Z Homesteaders Aren’t Panicked About Empty Shelves - The Glenn Beck Podcast (Video)
Why Gen Z Homesteaders Aren’t Panicked About Empty Shelves - The Glenn Beck Podcast (Video)
Sunday, October 6, 2024 2:49
This is a 5 October 2024 video, host Glenn Beck talks with Gubba, a Gen Z homesteader.
Are you worried about a collapsing economic system, supply chain disruptions, and global disasters? Now is the time to become self-sufficient.
This Gen Z homesteader is trying to revive the lifestyle of her grandparents. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, “Gubba” took one look at the empty shelves and realized she needed to detach herself from an “unreliable system.” She ditched her city life in Portland and traded ultra-processed foods, pharmaceuticals, and a desk job for 38 acres of farmland, where she is learning how to be self-sufficient. In a discussion about Big Pharma and whether or not Gubba would take antibiotics, she reveals her secret to having not been sick in over two years and the shocking truth about skyrocketing cancer rates in our pets.
The “matrix” of modern life is making us sick, but there is a way to live well in this crazy world, and Gubba says it’s about returning to our roots. Like many young people, she’s worried that modern ideas like feminism are making us unhappy and looks forward to her future “trad-wife” life, a trend Glenn is still trying to wrap his head around. Before agreeing on the best way to survive a society “going down the drain,” Glenn asks Gubba the question on everyone’s mind: Why is everyone talking about raw milk?
