What Would A Real Conservative Do?

May 29, 2012 by Ben Crystal

    UPI
Mitt Romney is outpolling Obama with increasing regularity

Those of you who frequent Personal Liberty Digest™ already know that I have never really been sold on the idea of Mitt Romney as President of the United States. In fact, some of my more old guard Republican friends have expressed some significant displeasure with my tendency to refer to him as the “Republi-Ken Doll.” I happen to think that’s spectacularly witty; they think it’s — well — less so.

My issue with Romney is not about his come-and-go conservatism. I have learned to accept that very few of the Republicans who make it to the top of the heap in the GOP are likely to deliver to me the sort of inspiration that President Barack Obama evidently offers people like Chris Matthews. Of course, for me to feel that inspired about a candidate, Uma Thurman would have to run for President; and that is a different column entirely.

Romney isn’t a bad guy; he’s just not my guy. Judging by some of the remarks I see here at Personal Liberty Digest™, the same can be — and often is — said by many of you. I view Romney in much the same way I viewed 2008 GOP nominee Senator John McCain.

Like the “maverick,” Romney strikes me as a placeholder. He’s someone who can believably fill the role of nominee without:

    • Scaring the pants off the Republican establishment in the manner of Representative Ron Paul.
    • Scaring the pants off white liberals in the manner of Herman Cain.
    • Scaring the pants off small children in the manner of former Speaker Newt Gingrich.

I suppose Romney is conservative enough to be the Republican standard-bearer. But he is not so conservative that the current incarnation of the Republican Party might feel the need to explain itself to the corporate media (that are as likely to call it down the middle as Rachel Maddow is to win the next Miss Universe pageant).

If you accept my premise that Romney is little more than a slightly updated version of McCain, then you have to wonder how his recent performance makes Obama feel. Obama, who cleaned McCain’s clock four years ago, is struggling not only to keep pace with Romney but with his own hype.

Beyond the usual menu of scandals and failures that have defined Obama’s occupation of the Oval Office, his recent travails are beginning to make Romney look like a rock star by comparison. In the past two weeks, Obama has found himself fighting off challenges by a convicted felon in West Virginia (Keith Judd, who is actually serving time in a federal prison in Texas), a no-name Democrat in Arkansas (he does have a name; I just don’t care enough to bother remembering it) and an actual nobody in Kentucky (Obama 58, “Uncommitted” 42).

While Obama has failed to get a grasp on his own duties, his campaign flunkies apparently can’t get a grasp on much else.

Their attacks on Romney have varied as wildly — and lasted about as long — as a Lady Gaga costume. Depending on the date, they have described Romney as a soulless corporate raider who delights in making a pile of money while crushing poor working folk, a shallow political marionette whose ideology changes with the tide (a description which isn’t necessarily far off — and also befits their own beloved leader) and/or a scheming partisan cretin who would gladly step on the electorate’s neck for his own gratification (ironically, a dead-on description of their own beloved leader).

I have identified myself as a Republican for most of my life. Romney hardly embodies my concept of the Republican archetype. I’m willing to admit that may have more to do with my personal evolution than the GOP’s coming coronation of Romney. But if Romney — who is outpolling Obama with increasing regularity — can drop the electoral hammer on Obama, consider what a real Republican — a real conservative — could do.

    –Ben Crystal

LibertyUSA PAC stops election riggers, right in their tracks, by doing exit polls in Texas and California: need your help.

    Submitted by Dr.K.Research on Tue, 05/29/2012 - 08:21
    Daily Paul Liberty Forum

LibertyUSA PAC and RonPaulProducts have teamed up in the effort to prevent and PROVE election rigging. It is high time to put a stop to the cheating. We were cheated in dozens of states, in both the primaries and caucuses.

Cheating in the primaries is a criminal offense, resulting in jail time and fines for the culprits.

Our brave mathematicians and statisticians have proven where the cheating occurs, which is in the large precincts of over 300 voters. This is where we must focus. And LibertyUSA PAC has the plan to do it.

But we need help. We need activists to do the exit polls and vote counting in both Texas and California. Out of state activists are welcome.

    The protocol is simple:

    * a precinct is selected

    * it is then manned by ideally two people (it will be a long day; a person may need a break for obvious reasons); back-up is also essential to guard against shenanigans

    * the appropriate materials are taken: clip-boards, exit poll forms, pens, and affidavits

    * ideally a sign is either made or provided (through RonPaulProducts), saying Exit Poll, staked into the ground.

    * the exit poller, standing right at the exit, take the poll

    * the poller dresses professionally

    * the poller says nothing about any candidate and wears no campaign matter

Note: the exit poll form is found, here: LibertyUSApac

Make copies of the second page for overflow (a new form will be posted shortly, including Santorum and Gingrich).

There is another key phase, which is the supreme effort at halting the rigging. This requires a second person at the poll, as follows:

    * the second person sets up a table with a sign on a white background, Ron Paul Voters Stop Here (or simply place a number of signs about, to attract the voters)

    * on the table can be a wide range of campaigning materials, as this is at the set-distance from the poll. This person can therefore campaign vigorously. But the key part is the affidavits. On the table are sufficient affidavits to cover all potential Ron Paul voters at the poll. Give the affidavit to each RP voter

    * ideally, that second person is a notary. If not, a third person could be recruited, who is a notary; then, the affidavit is notarized on-site (there is no time for this in Texas but plenty of time for California); you then have a court-certifiable ballot.

    * be sure you get the voters email and, if possible, phone number (you'll need a spiral note pad for this)

    * if you can make cards and give them out to each voter, great.

Note: the affidavit is self-explanatory and has information on how it can be uploaded to the site. Tell all voters to xerox their affidavit, keeping the original and copies in a secure place.

All we need is do this in a dozen or so precincts. We catch them cheating and shut down the entire election process.

Let's man as many polls as possible. Courtesy of RonPaulProducts there will be a precinct map put up shortly of Texas, so the key precincts can be assigned. These precincts will be those most heavily canvassed and/or saturated with Super Brochure mailings. The same will then be done for California.

UPDATE: there is one other important issue. This is to flood the vote in key California precincts/counties. A list of these will be posted here shortly, but these include San Francisco and San Luis Obispo but also San Jose, Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, and possibly Anaheim.

All we need is you. Several people have signed up already. Who will join us in this effort to secure the win and prove our votes?

Pat Buchanan: Bill Kristol Brags About Purging Ron Paul Types From GOP

    Submitted by tuntavern1775 on Tue, 05/29/2012 - 01:17
    Current Events

Trotskyite Kristol brags about neocons expelling the Buchanan/Ron Paul types and even does some revisionist history on PJB third party run in 2000 (a campaign I was a part of)
“At B’nai Jeshurun,” writes Weiss, “Kristol admitted to playing a role in expelling members of the Republican Party he does not agree with.” These are Republicans you had to “repudiate,” said Kristol, people “of whom I disapprove so much that I won’t appear with them.”

“I’ve encouraged that they be expelled or not welcomed into the Republican Party. I’d be happy if Ron Paul left. I was very happy when Pat Buchanan was allowed — really encouraged … by George Bush … to go off and run as a third-party candidate.”

How Bill Kristol Purged the Arabists

    May 29 2012

    Vote Average: 4.75 Stars!
    By Patrick J. Buchanan

After taping John Stossel’s show on March 16 in New York, the Mrs. and I took the 10 a.m. Acela back to Washington. Once we had boarded the train, who should come waddling up the aisle but Bill Kristol.

The Weekly Standard editor seemed cheerful, and we chatted about the surge in Mitt Romney’s popularity and prospects.

I did not ask what he had been doing in New York, but thanks to the website Mondoweiss, I found out. Kristol was there for a March 16 “debate” with Jeremy Ben-Ami of J Street, the pro-Israel organization, at B’nai Jeshurun synagogue on the Upper West Side.

After listening to Kristol, writes Phil Weiss, “I am still reeling.”

“Kristol was treated like royalty and came off as … a Republican Party warlord,” bragging “about how all the hostile elements to Israel inside the Republican Party were purged over the last 30 years — (and) no one (now) dared to question the power of the Israeli lobby.”

“The big story in the Republican Party over the last 30 years, and I’m very happy about this,” said Kristol, is the “eclipsing” of the George H.W. Bush-James Baker-Brent Scowcroft realists, “an Arabist old-fashioned Republican Party … very concerned about relations with Arab states that were not friendly with Israel … .”

That Bush crowd is yesterday, said Kristol. And not only had the “Arabists” like President Bush been shoved aside by the neocons, the “Pat Buchanan/Ron Paul type” of Republican has been purged.

Kristol’s point: Refuse to toe the neo-con line on Israel, and you have no future in the Republican Party.

Ben Ami seemed equally exultant: “We’ve won the war; we won the war,” he told the audience. Ninety-nine percent of Congress now votes almost 100 percent pro-Israel.
But Ben Ami appeared nervous about how this unanimity in the Congress behind Israel had been achieved:

“I very seriously and absolutely do believe that a significant percentage of American members of the House of Representatives and the Senate are intimidated on this issue (of Israel). … They worry about the ramifications of speaking out. … They are worried about the attacks that they will receive.”

Ben Ami said the 50 members who have criticized Israel are courageous, but, “Another 200 are scared to do it.” Haaretz.com reports Ben Ami as saying congressmen “live in fear” of the Israeli lobby.

Kristol laughed at this and dared Ben Ami to name them.

When Ben Ami brought up the destruction of Palestinian rights on the West Bank and said Hillary Clinton repeatedly raises this issue with Israel, writes Weiss, “Kristol s******ed.”

It’s a “myth,” said Kristol, that Arabs care about Palestinians. The Israeli occupation on the West Bank can last for 45 or 60 years more. Bill Kristol on Palestinian rights sounds like Bull Connor talking about Negro rights in Birmingham in 1965.

Another source says Kristol predicted that Sen. Joe Lieberman, whose voting record is closer to Socialist Bernie Sanders’ than to conservative Jim DeMint’s, will be secretary of state in the Romney administration.

A former head of the Israel lobby AIPAC describes Lieberman as “the No. 1 pro-Israel advocate and leader in the Congress.”

Joe led the cheers for our last three Middle East wars — and has pushed for two more, against Syria and Iran.

About Kristol’s comments, a point of personal privilege.

George W. Bush never “encouraged” me to go third party. At the Iowa straw poll in 1999, he asked me to stay in the party, and party chair Jim Nicholson came to my home to make the same request.

At the synagogue, Kristol was never asked about his role in the Iraq War that he and his collaborators pressured Bush to wage as “Israel’s fight against terrorism is our fight.”

Some 4,500 Americans died in that war, 35,000 were wounded, and 100,000 Iraqis perished, leaving half a million widows and orphans.

Result: U.S. influence in the Middle East is at a nadir. Al-Qaida has spread into Pakistan, Iraq, Yemen, Somalia, Syria and North Africa.

Now the neocons are worming their way into the Romney camp, dropping us hints on whether John Bolton or Joe Lieberman will be the next secretary of state.

Has Gov. Romney imbibed the Kristol Kool-Aid that caused the war and cost the party Congress in 2006 and the presidency in 2008?

Hard to believe, but we should find out before November.

    Thread for prayers

Lord, help us with your strength and understanding, because you are our strength and understand things you are making happening that we don't always see. Lord, calm our spirits if we are hurt, help us when we doubt, forgive us when we are sinning, and lead us into all righteousness for your name sake. Lord, also help us leave an inheritance for our children's children - the next generation, and a good country and better than we got it. Thank you God, Amen

"Romney likely to hit 'magic number' on Tuesday"? Wow.

    Ron Paul 2012

Check out this gem from CNN this morning:
"(CNN) – Mitt Romney is expected to hit his party's "magic number" on Tuesday, unofficially clinching the Republican presidential nomination in a race he entered as the frontrunner and has had to himself for weeks."
    http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/05/29/romney-likel...
This is an unbelievably misleading article. Check out the mention of the good doctor:
"Earlier this month, Rep. Ron Paul of Texas said he would no longer actively campaign for the Republican nomination, effectively ending his third run for the Oval Office with 122 delegates.
When Santorum, Paul and others were still in the race, talk of a contested convention swirled and it seemed to some a realistic possibility that Romney might not reach the magic number before the last state votes in June."
Let's make sure we get CNN a lot of feedback on the inaccuracies contained within this piece.
One other observation I have...has anyone noticed how the major networks continue to use the delegate counts from the Associated Press? It's so fixed that with all of their in-house political pundits they can't come up with their own? Pretty sad when an independent group of citizens can put this together and they cannot:

The FAKE Media can play stupid if they want... we are going all the way to the convention and they can try to prove the actual vote count ... HE AIN'T EVEN CLOSE; matter of fact even if he maxed out all delegates on Tuesday he could only prove a little more than 3/4 until the actual GOP convention ... and thats if he took ever single delegate

New Book on Ron Paul by Walter Block

Ron Paul for President in 2012: Yes to Ron Paul and Liberty

This book consists of a series of essays about Dr. Paul and his campaigns for the presidency in 2008 and 2012, with primary emphasis on the latter. Each of these chapters is an attempt to expand and expound upon his views, to publicize them, to promote his candidacy, to defend it against attacks from within and without the libertarian movement.

Will Ron Paul win? It is too early to know whether or not he will become the next president of the United States. Dr. Paul faces an uphill, and then a downhill, battle. He will have a more difficult time winning the Republican nomination than he will in beating Obama. Paul attracts people over the political spectrum. Republicans, yes; yet he is very attractive to Independents, and even, more surprisingly, to Democrats. If and when he gets the nod from the Republicans, he can attract more voters from the Democratic and Independent camps than Romney, and thus has a better chance of overturning the sitting president in the fall of 2012. In recent polls, Paul and Romney are in a statistical dead heat with Obama. Dr. Paul is not only running for the presidency of the U.S. His campaign is also an attempt to change the hearts and minds of the more than 300 million people in America, but also the nearly 7 billion inhabitants of the entire Earth. And in this latter quest he has already succeeded beyond the ambitious hopes of his most fervent supporters.
