Stebbins: Paul supporters 'out to change hearts and minds'

TAMPA -- Marianne Stebbins told a national audience of Ron Paul supporters Sunday that that they must engage the political process without becoming beholden to it.

“Our goal is not political power, our goal is to live free,” Stebbins said to thunderous applause. “When politics becomes the goal, we have lost the mission.”

Stebbins, who is chairwoman of Paul’s campaign in Minnesota, was a featured speaker at a Ron Paul rally at University of South Florida that drew thousands of devotees of the Libertarian-leaning Texas Congressman.

The only Minnesotan to speak at the rally, Stebbins talked about the movements’ scrappy origins in Minnesota, growing from obscurity to becoming a driving force in state Republican politics.

She described the Paul uprising beginning when many “introverts and nerds crawled out of their parents basements” and got involved once they awakened to the alarming amount of government intrusion in their lives.

The talking heads on radio, the t.v. pundits, and newspapers all touted this week how HUGE the crowd was at Romney's 'homecoming rally' in Michigan this week, claiming 9300 in attendance. REALLY? 9300? Here's a shot of that 'huge' crowd:

Earlier today it was being reported on Daily Paul, one of the main Ron Paul websites, that the delegation proceedings had been pushed back to Tuesday because of Hurricane Isaac. Someone at the site started asking questions and confirmed that it is a false rumor, possibly aimed at fooling Ron Paul delegates into missing a quick and efficient coronation of Mitt Romney as the Republican nominee....

Just a heads up from Tampa. Spoke with delegate from Georgia, they are threatening to strip the 3 Paul delegates of credentials unless they sign a pledge to vote for Romney.

"TAMPA, Fla. — Top Republicans are fighting one another over what one party leader called “one of the biggest power grabs” in the party’s history.

Senior GOP officials are accusing the Romney campaign’s chief attorney, Ben Ginsberg, of pushing through a rules change for delegate selection that would give Mitt Romney enormous power over the primary process should he win the White House and seek re-election in 2016.

“It shifts the power to select delegates from the state party to the [party’s presidential] candidate,” Republican National Committee Vice Chairman Jim Bopp told The Washington Times on Sunday. “And it would make the Republican Party a top-down, not bottom-up, party.”

Conservatives, as well as some moderates, said Mr. Ginsberg persuaded RNC Rules Committee members to let Mr. Romney — if he becomes president — decide which delegates will be seated at the 2016 GOP presidential nominating convention. It also calls for letting future presidential hopefuls decide who gets to take the delegate slots they win in each state.

Even though changes won’t take effect until 2016, senior officials fear that it will dampen the enthusiasm of rank and hamper this year’s bid to unseat President Obama."
