Yahoo News: Texas Delegates Planning Floor Mutiny Over RNC Rules Changes

    Ron Paul 2012

    Texas

While opposition to the rules began with Ron Paul supporters, it has spread to the entire Texas delegation and significant portions of those from South Carolina, Colorado, Virginia and Louisiana too.

TAMPA--On Monday morning, at a meeting of more than 100 Texan delegates and alternates at the Saddlebrook Resort 20 miles north of Tampa, one topic got the crowd more fired up than any other. Delegate Melinda Fredricks read aloud a letter condemning recent changes to the national Republican party's rules that would allow the GOP presidential candidate to veto and replace state delegates.

"Our delegates are in shock that such an amendment even would be presented before the Rules Committee much less passed into rule," Fredricks said. "Please know from the Texas delegation standpoint that the only way a floor fight can be avoided is for this rule to be stricken."

At that point, the entire Texas delegation stood up and applauded.

Texans don't necessarily want to have an ugly floor fight on the same day the party officially nominates Mitt Romney. But they're willing to do it if their concerns about the rule aren't satisfied. The changes, which Mitt Romney's top lawyer put forward last week and Gov. Haley Barbour along with some other Romney supporters have embraced, are seen by opponents as intended to significantly weaken the power of grassroots politics and insurgent candidates such as Ron Paul. Many against the move worry that it would give national candidates the power to replace delegates--often grassroots party faithfuls--with big-time donors or friends.

RNC: Agree to everything in convention, or lose your credentials

    [snip]

"The latest hassle was a document the Romney wants them to sign. "They want us all to sign that we will agree with everything in the convention."

    Everything?
"Yeah, sign here that you will not oppose anything that Romney brings forth."

That ain't gonna fly with a bunch of libertarians, Bean says. "He's too controlling.”

    That's not all.

"We aren’t even allowed to have our credentials for the next day — they're passing them out new every day. What does that mean?"

While Texas did not support seating the contested delegations, we are standing strong on opposing the GOP power grab. Our entire delegation will support a floor fight along with many other states. Please make sure all your delegates either support the Minority Report or vote the entire Rules Report down. Here's the video from this morning.

GOP Makes Sure Ron Paul Supporters Get Seats in Nose Bleed Section at RNC

Following Ron Paul’s sold out event in the University of South Florida Sun Dome on Sunday, GOP delegates from California promised to drown out “any uprising” by Paul supporters on the RNC floor this week.

Rep. Ron Paul during festival in the Sun Dome at the University of South Florida in Tampa on Sunday.

“The state delegation, marginalized in most matters because of California’s heavily Democratic electorate, could be significant in drowning out any chants supporting Paul: The 172-member delegation is the nation’s largest, and unlike some split delegations is fully committed to Romney,” the Sacramento Bee reports.

Jeff Randle, a senior Romney adviser who leads the California delegation, told the newspaper he has prepared 16 delegate whips to lead pro-Romney chants.

The tactic may not be necessary due to the fact the RNC has made sure Paul’s supporters will be seated far away from the podium in the nose-bleed section.

Delegates from U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, American Samoa and the Northern Marianas Islands will get better seats than Ron Paul’s supporters, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Politico received a RNC seating chart that shows the delegations from Nevada, Louisiana, Maine, Minnesota and Oklahoma located on the outer fringe of the convention floor. The states have significant Paul followings.

The GOP and the Romney campaign have worked overtime to deny Paul supporters a place on the convention floor. Paul has five states – Louisiana, Oregon, Massachusetts, Oklahoma and Maine – which grants official recognition on the floor, but this has been blocked by Romney’s lawyers.
According to the New York Times, Paul turned down chance to speak at the convention because he would not allow Romney’s team to go over his speech with a fine tooth comb.

Paul’s campaign manager, Jesse Benton, did not consider the RNC seating sub an issue, however.
“I am glad so many of our delegates get to sit close together,” he said.

Benton apparently attempted to sabotage the Paul Festival held in Tampa on Sunday. In the video below, Peter Schiff reads a text message Benton sent to the festival’s organizer, Deborah Robinet.

“The text proves that Jesse Benton of the Ron Paul campaign intentionally sabotaged Paul Festival and the Ron Paul supporters who organized it,” writes Gary Franchi of RTR.org.

Ron Paul Just Made The Last Speech Of His Political Career — Here’s What He Said

    Grace Wyler
    Business Insider
    August 27, 2012

TAMPA, FLA. — Speaking on the eve of the Republican National Convention, Ron Paul reassured hundreds of ecstatic supporters at a rally here Sunday that the revolution he began is far from over.

“Let me tell you, I was a little afraid to come down here,” Paul told the crowd at his Sun Dome rally. “I wasn’t afraid of Hurricane Isaac. But there have been a lot of news headlines that say the Revolution is over….They’re saying the Revolution isn’t happening — they wish!”

It was likely to be one of the last speeches of Paul’s political career — the Texas Congressman’s presidential campaign will officially end when the Republican Party nominates Mitt Romney this week, and Paul is retiring from Congress at the end of this year. But he promised his legions of fans on Sunday that the movement will move forward, even in his absence.

That is the way they operate. We might all be better off going with Obama. At least we know full well how rotten he is, he has made no secret of it. Romney and GOP on the other hand cannot be trusted at all. They will sell us down the river faster than Bush did.
