SANTA TERESA - U.S. Border Patrol Agents in Santa Teresa arrested a man Friday who had been convicted of manslaughter more than 30 years ago.

Agents assigned to the Santa Teresa Station were patrolling near the port of entry when they encountered 57-year old Rogelio Saldana-Hernandez making an illegal entry into the United States.

Saldana-Hernandez was arrested and taken to the Border Patrol Processing Center where he was enrolled into the biometric automated system. His fingerprints returned a prior extensive criminal history, including murder with a firearm, attempted murder, drug distribution, burglary and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The 57-year-old fugitive was arrested Sept. 16, 1979 for murder and convicted for manslaughter, for which he received a six-year prison sentence. He is now being detained for prosecution.
