Man acquitted in fatal stabbing still on immigrant hold

AURORA — A jury has acquitted an Aurora man of first-degree murder in the August stabbing death of a Denver man.

Jurors handed up the verdict Friday afternoon in Adams County Court in the case of 27-year-old Rodolfo Rauldale-Zuniga, who was accused of killing 47-year-old James Mills.

Rauldale-Zuniga testified that he confronted Mills on Aug. 10 because he believed Mills was the man who had robbed him earlier that day. He said Mills then attacked him, and he stabbed Mills in self-defense.

Deputy District Attorney Jaime Cowan argued that Rauldale-Zuniga was angry about being robbed and "wanted to kill someone that night." Rauldale-Zuniga, a native of Honduras, also is accused of being in the country illegally. He remains at the Adams County Jail on an immigration hold by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.
