    Man says he witnessed murder

Court documents allege that convicted felon Carlos Filomeno watched Ricky barge stab Calder to death on August 18th, and then helped him dispose of her body.

Sheriff's Deputies say Carlos Filomeno is in the United States illegally. He was taken in for two probation violations and is being held while law enforcement investigates his immigration status. Police say he is not yet being considered an accomplice to murder.

In an affidavit in support of a warrant out for suspected murderer Ricky Barge, Filomeno disclosed an eye-witness account of Judy Calder's murder.

The court papers show Filomeno as hired "help" at Imaging Technologies, the business where Judy was killed. Filomeno told police that on August 17th, Rickey Barge said he was going to kill Judy Calder over money Barge owed to her.

He says Barge then took Filomeno to Walmart to purchase three sweat suits and a knife. The documents show the sequence of events as follows: Rickey Barge gave Judy Calder a complimentary hotel room at the Sparks Nugget on August 17th, along with $1,000 in gaming chips to use during her stay.

On the morning of August 18th, Judy Calder arrived at Imaging Technologies alone. Filomeno says Barge stabbed Calder twice in the chest with a knife. At Barge's request, he then assisted him with the disposal of Calder's body.

Police were able to confirm some of Filomeno's story using forensics and surveillance cameras, but when they interviewed Barge, he had a different time line.

Police also spoke with Barge's wife, Maharul Ayube, who goes by "Rose," at the couple's home in Damonte Ranch. She revealed Barge's true name to be "Mohamed Kalam Kamalaudeen," one of his many aliases.

"Which one of those is his real identity? Only time will tell," said Commander Steve Asher of Sparks Police Department.

When detectives attempted to contact the suspect again, they learned he had fled the state.

Police have an arrest warrant for Rickey Barge for a single count of murder using a deadly weapon. Sparks detectives say he is still at large.

The court documents mention some contact with him, as recently as Tuesday, but police have yet to take him into custody.

Police still aren't answering any questions regarding motive, but the court documents show Filomeno as being cooperative in their investigation of him.

In one statement, he mentioned being scared of Barge, saying he thought Barge might hurt him if he didn't help dispose of Judy's body.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and that locating Ricky Barge is crucial to finding out what really happened the day Judy was murdered

Calder suspect also wanted in Canadian death

Calder suspect also wanted in Canadian death

A Reno businessman being held in Mexico and accused of killing a University of Nevada, Reno faculty member also is charged with first-degree murder on a 14-year-old Canadian warrant.

Mohamed Kalam Kamalaudeen, known locally as Rickey Barge, is accused of orchestrating the September 1993 robbery-related stabbing death of a 61-year-old Toronto man by a teenager, Toronto Police Services spokesman Mark Pugash said Monday.

Kamalaudeen, 50, is charged on a Washoe County warrant with the August stabbing death of Judy Calder, 64, who was his friend and business associate. Police said that when Kamalaudeen moved to Reno several years ago from Guyana with his wife, Rose Ayube, he assumed the identity of Barge, a Dallas man.

Kamalaudeen was arrested Sept. 4 in Mexico on an immigration hold issued by Mexican officials. His immigration status in the United States is unknown, police said. Last week, a provisional warrant was issued against Kamalaudeen in Mexico to begin the process to bring him back to Reno.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Dan Greco said the extradition process could take several months or years. He said lawyers representing the U.S. Office of International Affairs have been filing legal documents on behalf of the Washoe County district attorney.

"Sometimes, persons incarcerated in Mexican jails who initially demand to be extradited change their minds and agree to return voluntarily," Greco said. "If at any point Mr. Kamalaudeen does that, he should be brought back to the United States immediately."

In 2004, Greco successfully prosecuted a murderer who had fled to the Philippines who had avoided the law for 15 years. It took two and a half years to extradite Conrado Baylon Fiel, who was sentenced to two life terms for shooting to death Jesse James Lake in 1989.

"Delays in these international cases are normal, but they can lead to good results," Greco said.

When fugitives are being extradited within the United States, authorities where they are being held only need to prove the person is the defendant named in the out-of-state warrant, Greco said. Fingerprints and photos are used to establish identity.

But in international cases, Greco said foreign governments review the case in a sort of mini-trial to determine whether probable cause exists to support the warrant. Foreign governments also are able to request affidavits and documents, such as autopsy reports, which can further delay the process, Greco said.

Pugash said Toronto police accuse Kamalaudeen of arranging to have a 17-year-old boy murder Bernard Bimbi in an attack motivated by robbery. The boy stabbed Bimbi to death on Sept. 2, 1993, in an auto garage that services taxi cabs. He said the boy was convicted and sentenced, while Kamalaudeen remained a fugitive. He said he did not want to reveal Kamalaudeen's relationship to the boy or Bimbi. Pugash also had no comment about Kamalaudeen's motives.

Pugash said Toronto police detectives are in frequent contact with police in Reno and Sparks and are deciding the best way to execute the warrant against him.

According to court documents, "Judy Calder was killed because Barge owed her money and was not able to pay." Police found a signed document in his business, Imaging Technologies, that said he owed Calder $150,000.

Calder's husband, James, used Imaging Technologies to store supplies from his office-supply business. An alleged witness to Calder's death, Carlos Filomeno, told police that Kamalaudeen stabbed her to death when she walked into the business on Aug. 18, according to court records.

Filomeno is suspected of being an illegal immigrant and is being held in Washoe County Jail on two warrants charging him with violating probation related to two local fraud convictions. He told police that Kamalaudeen offered him work, and then gave him money to buy a knife and three sweat suits from Wal-Mart, which were later used in the killing of Calder, according to court documents.

Filomeno said that after he witnessed Kamalaudeen stab Calder at least twice in the chest on Aug. 18, he helped him put her body in a large cardboard box that he saw him earlier line with plastic, according to an affidavit.

The pair then loaded the box into a work van outside the business that remained there when James Calder came by the business the day before he reported his wife missing, the affidavit said.

Judy Calder's body was found last month by hunters in rural Elko County after she had been missing for nearly two weeks. She was buried last week at Arlington National Cemetery.
