Yes, they should serve time before they're deported, or there's absolutely no deterrent.
You're absolutely right, mapwife. Deportation in itself is definitely not a deterrent. I'd say the huge number of criminal aliens that return after being deported proves your point.

Criminal aliens must first be made to pay for their crime before deporation. I understand the cost factor argument, but we probably shouldn't use that as an excuse for ignoring criminal activity. Remember, most committed crimes also involve a victim(s).

I was going to say put them on the chain gang like they used to do with prisoners. But they could do that while they're building the wall! Hard labor that will defray the taxpayer costs of keeping them in prison. I like that idea.

In this case, I would have to say "No". Deportation was appearently what this guy wanted after he told the Judge he was here illegally. I am really baffled at the "Manslaughter" charges, as Virginia has stricter laws on fatalities from a DUI than what Ramos was charged with. My point being, he should be held accountable for his crimes. If the death penalty applies, then so be it. If not, then when he is released when he is 70, then deport him.

Now for those who have been deported without serving (or serving very little) jail time. [Mod Edit] Basically, why are we continuing to deal with this stupidity? We are tired of it!
