On the morning of March 15, David Benton was crossing the street in Lake Highlands when he was hit by a car driven by 22-year-old Angel Lopez-Gil. The front of his car showed the force of the impact.

Lopez-Gil continued driving down the road — with Benton's body on the hood — before parking the car and running away. He was caught soon after.

Lopez-Gil was charged with an accident involving death, and last Thursday, a jury found him guilty.

His punishment? Ten years' probation and probable deportation. He is an undocumented immigrant from Mexico.
