I know about that Legal, it is a fairly chronically impoverished place. It is really sad, as the location is so nice. Like many local coastal towns throughout Oregon and Washington, work year round is hard to come by.

My brother and his wife, for some reason (?), decided to move to Newport, Oregon. He had a promised job, but after getting there, it completely fell through, and now he is stuck delivering pizza's full time. They would have been better off up here in Multnomah county (with all of it's problems).

We ourselves would love to move out to a small town, maybe east of the range, but unless you are a rancher, or have similar skills, you'd be hard-pressed to even find a part time job. The coast at least has some tourist industry. Aberdeen is in a kind of cut-off area, and is not readily accessible as most coastal towns are.

Don't be surprised if Lars Larson mentions this or becomes involved as well.

    I SENT THE FOLLOWING....

    County Commission chairman Al Carter

    Commission Member Mike Wilson

    Commission Member Bob Beerbower

(MONTESANO — County Commission chairman Al Carter lost his cool with a longtime opponent of illegal immigration during Monday’s commission meeting, eventually calling on Sheriff’s deputies to escort Stan Blunt from the building. )

This was quite distressing to read that you ejected Stan Blunt, an American Citizen because he wants answers and action on law enforcement that all Americans have a right to.

Mr. Blunt had a valid complaint about crime in the community, he has the right to expect the County Commission and all law enforcement to do their jobs by law. Those who find this to be a problem for them need to resign and allow those who want to do their job, to step up to the plate and take a stand for its Legal Citizens? . This is a national problem that affects all American citizens, tax payers, and voters.

We as Citizens put our trust in our branches of government, have a right to see our laws enforced and our Constitution necessitates our government (who all take an oath to enforce laws as written) to protect us, not the Nationals of foreign countries.
You are supposed to be there to protect the well being and safety of your Citizens and community. Americans have the right to question and get answers.

Freedom doesn't mean ...anyone has the right to invade and break laws of another Country to gain a dream nor does it mean that Our Government should make laws that only apply to Citizens, while illegal aliens trash our People, our laws, our Country, our borders, our rights, our protection, our culture, our service and education systems with no consequences for their felon behavior and all we hear is that it's the federal governments job.

It is despicable for our state governments to keep putting off this issue of crime and criminals to the federal government's failure to act. We have state laws and law enforcement who get paid to enforce our laws.

With 25 American Citizens being killed everyday by Illegals, this is a larger problem then the war In Iraq in regards to loss of life. It is not being reported by the mainstream media, reason it is not in the news is, because of fear of being called a Bigot and racist, but I would like to ask how it is racist to enforce our laws. Is it then racist to apprehend a bank robber or drug dealer?

The facts are; Many Illegals are paid off the books. Most others earn low salaries and therefore pay little or no tax. Yet Illegals are heavy users of tax-dollar funded programs: education, health care, and the criminal justice system, for example.
According to US Census data, immigrants are 75% more likely to use food stamps,
medical benefits and housing assistance at a cost of $68 billion per year.
It also lowers the communities tax base; the taxpayers in California are paying 500 million a year in just incarceration costs.

Our public schools are suffering from large class sizes that are affecting the education of natural and legalized Citizens. There is not enough money to build and repair our schools due to the loss of revenue. The birth rate of Illegals doubles that of legal Citizens yet they pay little or no taxes to fund their children's education.

Illegal Immigrants and their children have not been screened for infectious diseases there by increasing diseases that have been virtually eliminated in the US, 7000 new cases of leprosy in the last three years along with 16000 cases of drug resistant tuberculosis.

Two thirds of all felony warrants in LA are issued for Illegals, which do not include being in the country illegally. These are for violent crime such as murder, rape, armed robbery and gang related activities like drugs and assault. My thoughts are: if citizens want to ask questions they have the right to, if you aren't taking action, they have a right to insist and that all Government parties need to remember ...this is a great country because of a law abiding society...Americans and legal immigrants. Not because of
ILLEGAL ALIENS TRYING TO USE A LEGAL PLATFORM OF IMMIGRATION TO
    SHROUD THEMSELVES.

It might be in the best interest of this community for you to look into the
1996 Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) "authorized the Secretary of Homeland Security to enter into a written agreement to delegate the authority of enforcing federal immigration laws to a state or political sub-division of a state." Through Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), local law enforcement officers can receive immigration enforcement training - called "287(g) cross designation training." The cost for the five-week program is approximately $520 per officer. With participation in this program "Local communities that want to help enforce immigration laws can do so legally and cost effectively." also in many parts of our Country people don't realize how their decisions will effect everyone in our Country, our children and their children.

Please do the research for yourself.

    VICTIMS OF ILLEGAL ALIENS MEMORIAL
In honor of Americans killed by Illegal Aliens.

Deaths that could have been prevented if Congress and the President would have secured our borders and enforced US immigration laws and our state governments
would stop making excuses for not enforcing our laws also.
Each day a victim's name will be added to the memorial

I hope you will stand with the vast majority of Americans that want our laws enforced and our communities and tax dollars protected from Illegal Aliens.

    Commissioner Al Carter
Grays Harbor County Board of Commissioners

The County is derelict if it does not assure that any contractor engaged with the County or operating on County property is following the law of all levels of government, whether it is federal, state or local law. While it may not be the County’s responsibility to enforce federal immigration and labor laws, it certainly is incumbent on any governmental unit within the United States to assure that any entity it does business with is operating lawfully. The question that Mr. Blunt has posed, repeatedly, is a question that all who respect the rule of law should be asking. The County is obligated to make a reasonable response to that query. If the County repeatedly ignores the question, or shirks its responsibility to respect the laws, then the question should be asked again and again because there certainly is an indication that the governance of the County either ignores, condones, or actively participates in unlawful behavior.

It is quite simple for the County to require any entity it contracts with to operate within the parameters of the law. Require that contractors engaged with the County hire only legal workers and maintain the records (I-9s, etc) required by the law. The County can and should verify that any worker engaged on work for the County or on County property or projects is legally allowed to work. This is a simple and minimal assurance that the County conducts its business legally and with contractors who are operating legally. It does not require the County to enforce law, make arrests, or detain anyone. It simply assures compliance with the law. Why is that so difficult?

Some Letters to Editor in the local paper regarding the above story.

I got a laugh reading about the cowardly actions of County Commissioner Al Carter in ejecting Stan Blunt from the commissioners’ meeting — in essence a dinner that he paid to attend!

What’s the matter, Al? Can’t you handle a simple question? — a question about illegal immigration that needs real answers, not some song-and-dance routine.

Stan has a right to ask a question and hear an honest answer, just like any other citizen.

Last time I checked, Rome has long since come and gone. The commissioners have an obligation to answer to the citizens of Grays Harbor.

There is a time and place for such questions, Al, and that’s any time a citizen of Grays Harbor asks you. It’s your job!

What are you going to do about making sure that the workers here on the Harbor actually have a legal right to be here? We’d all appreciate an honest answer.

If you can’t handle a simple question with an honest answer, the people of the district should eject you from office.

The story headlined “Illegal immigration opponent ejected from meeting” struck a chord.

Stan Blunt may have been out of order at the county commissioners’ meeting, but I sympathize with him. Sometimes you have to go to extremes to be heard.

I have a question for Commissioner Al Carter: Doesn’t the county have an obligation to its citizens to make sure the contractors it does business with are legit?

I certainly believe that’s so, since taxpayers pay the wages of those who work at local, county and state as well as federal government offices. Commissioner Carter seems to believe that it is Immigration & Naturalization Service’s duty to be the only ones to deal with an illegal immigration problem.

I strongly disagree, and I am sure there are lots of American citizens who agree with me.

Though he may have been out of order at the commissioners’ meeting, Stan Blunt is protected by the First Amendment, which guarantees free speech.

I sympathize with his anger about the illegal immigration problem in this country. It is a national epidemic and all citizens should participate in upholding our laws — whether it be an average citizen or a county commissioner! Hopefully this injustice will be resolved.

Al Carter, the chairman of the Board of County Commissioners, should be ashamed of himself for ordering Stan Blunt to leave a recent meeting. Blunt was accurately describing the various problems associated with illegal aliens, specifically allowing illegals to work on public lands.

Blunt is a committed citizen of Grays Harbor County and the United States. He has every right to voice his opinion and I applaud him.

If the commissioners can’t handle the truth and if they can’t make lawful decisions, they should step down.

Unfortunately the federal government is derelict in its duty, and it is up to local governments to uphold the law of the land.

I ask that other local citizens join Blunt at the next commissioners’ meeting and show their support for this tough-talking, no-nonsense patriot.

    Bravo to you, Mr. Blunt!

The story headlined “Illegal immigration opponent ejected from meeting” was on page A-7 of The Daily World. It should have been on the front page.

The outrageous conduct by County Commissioner Al Carter — supported by Commissioner Mike Wilson — toward a Vietnam veteran for simply asking a question they have never answered tells a lot about these top county officials.

Wilson brags that he ejected Stan Blunt once from an Aberdeen City Council meeting, and Carter chimes in that former county commissioner Dennis Morrisette did too!

Our three commissioners signed an agreement to let salal be picked from county timberlands, but they could not care less who is doing the work.

Why is it OK for Grays Harbor County and other cities to exploit these workers using cheap labor to plant trees or cut salal? Are they making minimum wage or peanuts?

Illegal immigrants would not be here if our federal officials would secure our borders. Our own sons and daughters would be doing the work, as they did 20 years ago for wages about 50 percent more than the minimum wage. Today, these workers are trying to put food on the table, any way they legally can.

Some illegal immigrants are gang members or criminals involved in committing crimes. Send them back to their country of origin without wasting taxpayer money on courts, jails or prisons.

What happens in the summer? Kids are out of school, and they are helping their families pick salal or planting trees. Grays Harbor County is using child labor but our county commissioners simply don’t care, as long as they get their money. They refuse to even visit the public property where these contracts are taking place.

Most recent published development on this issue, from the minutes of the County Commission meeting on March 26, 2007:

Stanley Blunt, Aberdeen, WA provided materials regarding Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) and commented on the need to implement the program.
