ALIPAC Letter opposing in-state tuition for illegal aliens

    Dear State Legislator:

I am writing you today on behalf of over 80% of your constituents who oppose in-state tuition subsidies for illegal aliens.

While a handful of states have this measure, those bills were passed without adequate public foreknowledge or debate. Since 2005, in-state tuition for illegal aliens legislation has failed in every state that engaged in public debate prior to voting.

In-state tuition for illegal aliens legislation is wrong because it forces American taxpayers to pay to replace their own children in the limited seats in our colleges! State and national polls indicated that 70-80% of voters oppose this measure and any non emergency taxpayer benefits for illegal aliens or illegal alien families. This is why most in-state tuition for illegal aliens have failed in many states and a growing number of court challenges abound in the few states that passed these measures secretly.

In-state tuition for illegal aliens also violates the intent of Federal laws which say you must offer in-state tuition for all American students if you try to provide the subsidy for non US citizens. It is unfair to the innocent American students in adjacent states that your universities would charge them more than illegal aliens.

I ask that you respect the wishes of a super majority of your constituents and American citizens by rejecting the in-state tuition for illegal aliens legislation before you.

Generations of American families have paid the taxes to build our institutions of higher learning over many decades. Americans have a right to determine policy through you as their elected representative. Generations of Americans did not build these institutions to serve as an increased incentive for illegal aliens to enter and remain in your state unlawfully. We must all work together to turn off all magnetism and all non emergency taxpayer incentives for illegal aliens.

Finally, in-state tuition for illegal aliens will increase pressures on taxpayers and educational facilities during a terrible economy when each tax dollar and each seat in college is needed for Americans who are suffering. Passing in-state tuition for illegals will bring more illegal aliens into your state. Each lawmaker who supports or votes for this measure will face the wrath of a super majority of voters in the next election cycle if this bill passes.

I hope you will stand with the over 80% of Americans who want you to actively oppose and vote no on any legislation that provides taxpayer subsidies for tuition as a reward for families that violated our popularly supported immigration laws including the in-state tuition bill you face this year.

Our organization stands ready to assist you in your efforts to defeat this bad legislation.

    Sincerely,

    William Gheen
