DOD bill coming up for debate at 3:00 pm on Senate floor. Watch CSPAN2, if you can.
Will there be a vote today? I have gotten nothing from Numbers USA today. Sen Martinez (FL) office says that he will vote no if DREAM Act or anything related to immigration is included in the Def Auth bill. Nelson was non-commital this morning. I am calling back now.Quote:

That would be absolutely super good news, if he holds true to this.Quote:

I am surprised about Martinez.
Bayh is getting alot more calls, people are furious.
[quote="SamLowrey"]How does this look for a fax. Let me have some feedback.
[quote]Dear Senator,
The Senate’s attempt to sneak more horrible immigration legislation in the DEFENSE Bill is a fine example of why the view of elected officials in that body is so low. There is no reason to do this except those who want this KNOW it is wrong. The so-called DREAM act is Amnesty as is anything that rewards those who have broken our laws. It hurts American students who are already displaced quite regularly by foreigners via other student visa programs. No tax dollars should be used for either case. Why are Americans treated as second-class citizens compared to NON-citizens? This is why Americans are outraged.
We don’t need more H-1B or H-2B visa holders, either. The government has no exit system for H-1B visa holders – you have no idea how many are in the country or where they are! Thanks to youtube, we have seen how much FRAUD is in the H-1B visa system. Do a search for “H-1Bâ€
Burr is voting no.
Thanks. Modified it a bit and it is about to go out to 80 Senators (I rule out lost causes or those solidly on our side, plus my own who get a customized fax.)Quote:

There are over 300 amendments to the Defense bill, so be prepared for the next 2 weeks at least. WHEN they introduce the DREAM Act and the visa increases is anyone's guess. We all must watch this carefully.
So far, I haven't heard a position YET from ANY of the Senators offices I have spoken with today. Some of them aren't even answering.
Yep!...Burr is a definate NO on S.A. 2237 The DREAM Act. No position taken, though, on H1-B and H-2B visa expansion.Quote:

Sen Nelson's (FL) office is still saying that he is reviewing the language of all 3 amendments to the bill but that he believes that every child deserves a chance, blah, blah, blah. She told me that she would record my opposition to the amendments and let him know.
April has a zip code list that is of a lot of help to use if needed. Maybe shell see this post and post it on this thread.Quote:

SURPRISE: Both Senators of Florida (lovers of Amnesty) will vote no. Reason given: Because it is attached to Defense Bill. If it was a stand alone, they would vote yes. FL has several military bases. Suspect this is the reason. NEVER did I expect this!!!Yes!
Phoned every Senator beginning last week. E-mailed every Senator. FAX got hit by lightning. Most inconsiderate of lightning!
States with Military bases could get the same Senatorial response as FL. If so, this is a slam dunk.
However, we were out done by the pro groups. Must devise new way to work. I do have a few ideas which I will share if you are interested.
OK so the definite NO's are:
Vitter
Bunning
McCaskill
Sessions
Martinez
Likely NO's
Roberts
So you're saying Martinez and Nelson are NO?Quote:

Aid said Voinovich, will call me back …
He’s aid said they aren’t releasing any statements on Senator Durbin's Amendment and there is no plans to release any statements as of now Also the general mail box will be turned off while he is in Washington… strange first time for any of that …
OK, let's keep the pressure on.
Bulldogger, thanks for posting the list of senators being pressured by the pro-Dream Act amnesty lovers.
Burr a definate NO on the DREAM Act. No committment yet on H1-B and H-2B visas.Quote:

(Burr Staffer:
Your staff asked me to direct this question to you.
Senator Burr's office is telling callers that he will oppose the Durbin Amendment (SA 2237 / Dream Act) to the Defense Authorization Act HR 1585. We are happy to hear this as the measure would give AMNESTY to millions of illegal aliens and force taxpayers to subsidize their college educations.
We are also aware that several other proposed amendments contain expansions / increases for the H-1b and H-2b visa programs.
Most Americans will oppose these measures because America already allows 1.4 million people to legally immigrate each year which is more than any other nation on earth! America is in no mood for Visa increases while illegal immigration is rampant in our nation. We hope Senator Burr will oppose any visa expansions at this time.
Please let us know if Senator Burr plans to vote for or oppose visa expansion amendments that are certainly NOT GERMAINE to the Defense bill.
We would like to pass this information along to tens of thousands of concerned citizens.
Sincerely,
William Gheen

I've talked to Dole's office twice. Nothing oficial, but she is a likely NO. She is opposed to amnesty in all forms to illegals.
Barasso, WY is leaning NO, according to staffer. No position released, though.
