Thank you for contacting my office with your thoughts on SB 1080, the
bill to secure Oregon's driver's license. I have received a large
number of passionate responses from across the state, demonstrating that
this issue is one of great concern to Oregonians. As you know, ensuring
that our driver's licenses are a secure identity document is critical
for Oregonians who need to board planes, enter federal buildings, or
have their driver's licenses accepted as proof of identity in other
states. I am pleased to report that the Senate passed SB 1080 this
morning, setting Oregon on the path to join the 43 other states that
    require proof of legal presence.

However, passage of this bill does not mean our work is done. The
federal government has failed to live up to its obligation to provide
the country with a just and comprehensive immigration plan. As a
result, states are being forced to enact piecemeal, inconsistent
legislation that is constantly subject to changes in federal law. We
must keep pressure on Congress to reform the immigration process in a
fair and responsible manner, without further unfunded federal mandates.

Thank you again for sharing your thoughts with me. Please do not
hesitate to contact my office with any future questions or concerns.

    Best wishes,

    Rick Metsger
    Bbean,

In Oregon we only need people contacting the House. The bill has already passed the Senate and is in the Ways and Means committee in the House.

In Utah, we only need people contacting the Senate. The license bill has already passed the house and now needs to pass in the Senate.

Sorry guys, been away for a while. Thanks for all your help.

Here's a short list of people to really follow up with. These are the House members of the Ways and Means Committee. They need to hear from you in order to convince them to get the bill together and pass it on to the full OR House for a vote:

    Membership:

    Rep. Mary Nolan, Co-Chair
    Rep. Nancy Nathanson, Vice-Chair
    Rep. David Edwards
    Rep. Larry Galizio

    Rep. Bob Jenson
    Rep. Susan Morgan
    Rep. Chip Shields
    Rep. Patti Smith

One rather subtle but remarkable thing everyone here should be aware of, is this:

All this has been done in a state that is one of the most 'Blue' in the country.
Not only do we have a Dem Governor, both our State Senate and House have Dem majorities. While this is a rather small step in the overall progression of things, it goes to show that progress can be made!

PhredE, I got this back from Hanna's office:

    "Dear xxxxx,

Thank you for writing Representative Hanna regarding SB 1080. He supports this bill and (barring any unforeseen amendments that change it's meaning) will be voting for it when it reaches the floor of the House for consideration.

    Sincerely,
