    AL - Alabama
    The House passed a bill by 92-0, which "requires contractors that do business with the state of Alabama to certify in writing they will not hire illegals, unauthorized aliens". This bill has gone to the Senate for passage.
    Update: 3/25 "Sen. Scott Beason, R-Gardendale, is sponsoring the Immigration Reform Bill, which is being co-sponsored by 26 of the 35-member Senate. Beason is working to crack down on illegal immigration and wants to require that everyone working in Alabama show a state-issued ID to prove legal residency."

    AK - Alaska
    Resolution by Assemblyman Paul Bauer supporting proof-of-citizenship required to receive an Alaska Driver's License. This resolution is in support of bills by Sen. Charlie Higgins and Rep. Bob Lynn's who's bill is currently in the House Finance Committee.

    AZ - Arizona
    House Bill 2412 would give police the authority to ticket people who disrupt traffic, such as by waving or gesturing for drivers to pull over and hire them. On Monday, the bill was approved on a 5-3 committee vote. HB 2412 is aimed at “day laborers’’ who gather near home improvement stores and other locations, many of whom he said are in this country illegally. A House vote of 37-22 vote sends the bill to the Senate.

    3/19 Proposal going to the House for vote: The Arizona House gave preliminary approval Wednesday to a proposed requirement that city and county police agencies carry out programs for their officers to confront federal immigration violations.

    Oppose: The Arizona Temporary Workers Program, or House Bill 2791, passed a committee vote of 6-0. Note: "The guest-worker program would need the blessing of Congress before it could take effect, assuming HB2791 succeeds in the Legislature. A companion measure, HCM 2012, asks Congress to grant Arizona the authority to run the trial program. It also passed on a 6-0 committee vote. "

    House Bill 2745 expected to go to House floor for vote first week of April Futhering the employer sanctions laws to include independent contractors, those paid in cash and added fines.

    House members also gave preliminary approval to a bill that would make it a Class 4 felony for someone to rent, sell or otherwise engage in a property transaction when they know that the other party intends to use it as a drophouse. The bill is sponsored by Rep. Adam Driggs, R-Phoenix.

    CA - California
    Assemblyman Chuck DeVore has filed an amendment bill (AB 175 which would replace the language in the current CA laws that grant in-state tuition for illegal aliens. This amendment would disqualify illegal aliens from receiving in-state tuition by redirecting the benefit to members of the National Guard and military that reside in CA. This bill will be heard on March 4!

    Update: Several new anti-illegal immigration bills filed the week of March 24th.

    Governor Ritter refuses to enforce Colorado's Immigration Laws, specifically HB 1023 that passed in 2006, which requires assistance agencies to make applicants provide proof of citizenship when applying for assistance.

    Passed House Committee a "bill [that] would require employers to verify that a job applicant's appearance matches a valid photo ID and sign a form that they had done so. Employers caught lying on the form would be subject to felony perjury charges, punishable by up to five years in prison and a $7,500 fine."

    KS - Kansas
    Sen. Tim Huelskamp's proof-of-citizenship voting law is currently in the House Elections and Governmental Organization Committee.

    SB 458 modeled after the Legal Arizona Workers Act is currently before the Federal and State Affairs Committee. The House just completed committee hearings on four similar bills and is expected to come up with a single bill.

    Update: 3/25 Both chambers have passed different versions, of a comprehensive enforcement bill, SB 458 and HB 329 and "the final immigration bill will be worked out in the coming days by House and Senate negotiators." These bills address employment, benefits, human trafficking and enforcement measures.

    KY - Kentucky

    MD - Maryland Oppose - March 4th, Hearing in General Assembly of "House Bill 1236 that will give in-state tuition to illegal aliens, which is sponsored by 41 state delegates, would likely be signed into law by Democrat Gov. Martin O'Malley, if it gets out of the powerful House Ways & Means Committee".
    HB288 a bill that requirs legal presence in the US to receive a MD driver's license. A hearing March 19 in the Judiciary Committee.
    HB 604 a bill to require people to prove lawful presence to receive public benefits is before the Appropriations Committee on March 4th.
    HB 886 a bill to declare English the official language of Maryland, which a hearing is on March 12 in the Health and Government Operations Committee."

MO Senate voice vote Approves Immigration Bill "The measure would require police to check immigration status when they arrest someone, block many illegal immigrants from attending public colleges and withhold state money from cities with policies not to cooperate with immigration authorities. " "It must be approved once more in the Senate before going on to the House for further scrutiny."

    Update: Governor Haley Barbour to signed the MISSISSIPPI EMPLOYMENT PROTECTION ACT 2008 (Senate Bill 298

    The Senate passed 4 immigration bills. House Speaker Billy McCoy can take them strait to the House floor for vote or send them to committee, where they will likely die because the chairs are in opposition to the immigration legislation.
    SB 2988 A bill prohibiting companies from hiring illegal immigrants in Mississippi has passed the House and is headed to the governor to sign.

    SC - South Carolina
    The SC House has passed an employment verification bill, however, the Senate has passed a stronger immigration bill that includes restrictions on college benefits, punishing those that harbor or transport illegals and allows workers to sue their employers if they were replaced by an illegal. The Senate version is now going back to the House for passage.
