The House passed a bill by 92-0, which "requires contractors that do business with the state of Alabama to certify in writing they will not hire illegals, unauthorized aliens". This bill has gone to the Senate for passage.
Update: 3/25 "Sen. Scott Beason, R-Gardendale, is sponsoring the Immigration Reform Bill, which is being co-sponsored by 26 of the 35-member Senate. Beason is working to crack down on illegal immigration and wants to require that everyone working in Alabama show a state-issued ID to prove legal residency."

AZ - Arizona
House Bill 2412 would give police the authority to ticket people who disrupt traffic, such as by waving or gesturing for drivers to pull over and hire them. On Monday, the bill was approved on a 5-3 committee vote. HB 2412 is aimed at “day laborers’’ who gather near home improvement stores and other locations, many of whom he said are in this country illegally. A House vote of 37-22 vote sends the bill to the Senate.

3/19 Proposal going to the House for vote: The Arizona House gave preliminary approval Wednesday to a proposed requirement that city and county police agencies carry out programs for their officers to confront federal immigration violations.

Oppose: The Arizona Temporary Workers Program, or House Bill 2791, passed a committee vote of 6-0. Note: "The guest-worker program would need the blessing of Congress before it could take effect, assuming HB2791 succeeds in the Legislature. A companion measure, HCM 2012, asks Congress to grant Arizona the authority to run the trial program. It also passed on a 6-0 committee vote. "

House Bill 2745 expected to go to House floor for vote first week of April Futhering the employer sanctions laws to include independent contractors, those paid in cash and added fines.

House members also gave preliminary approval to a bill that would make it a Class 4 felony for someone to rent, sell or otherwise engage in a property transaction when they know that the other party intends to use it as a drophouse. The bill is sponsored by Rep. Adam Driggs, R-Phoenix.

CA - California
Assemblyman Chuck DeVore has filed an amendment bill (AB 175 which would replace the language in the current CA laws that grant in-state tuition for illegal aliens. This amendment would disqualify illegal aliens from receiving in-state tuition by redirecting the benefit to members of the National Guard and military that reside in CA. This bill will be heard on March 4!

SB 458 modeled after the Legal Arizona Workers Act is currently before the Federal and State Affairs Committee. The House just completed committee hearings on four similar bills and is expected to come up with a single bill.

Update: 3/25 Both chambers have passed different versions, of a comprehensive enforcement bill, SB 458 and HB 329 and "the final immigration bill will be worked out in the coming days by House and Senate negotiators."
