Alleged Manifesto of Oregon Shooter Reveals "No Job, No Life, No Success"

In the alleged manifesto, which is roughly six pages long, the 26-year-old gunman reportedly says he always felt like "the most hated person in the world."

"I was hated ever since I arrived in the world," Oregon shooter Chris Harper-Mercer reportedly said in a manifesto discovered on his computer. "I was always under attack. I've always been the most hated person in the world." The manifesto, recently excerpted to People via "sources familiar with the investigation," reveals that Mercer felt there was nothing that could have been done to prevent his tragic actions at Umpqua Community College, as society had forced him to align himself with his demons:

"He says, 'Many will ask how can they have prevented this?

You can't. You could never give me what I wanted. Nothing could have stopped it,' " the source tells PEOPLE.

"He talks about other mass killers, and says, 'These people were denied everything they deserved and wanted.' "

Mercer then purportedly expresses skepticism that anything could have turned his life around: "He asks, 'What was supposed to happen? What great event was supposed to make me realize I had so much going for me?' " the source says.

Abandoned and alone, Mercer allegedly writes, "I've been forced to align myself with these demons and become one of them. At first, it was involuntary, but now I am aligned with them. I now serve. When I die I will become one of them."

He adds: "My success in Hell is assured."

Mercer ultimately committed suicide after taking the lives of nine people and injuring others, a harrowing event that quickly triggered another debate in America regarding the future of potential gun law reform. Consequently, a Republican-led avoidance of the gun control topic entirely inspired a separate debate regarding the current status of mental health services in this country.

Prompted by President Barack Obama's request during a statement on the Oregon shooting, various publications compiled comparison charts of deaths from terrorism and deaths from gun violence. The results, as one might expect, paint a very detailed picture of the issue's most pressing realities.

The revelation that Umpqua Community College shooter Chris Mercer used the screen name “lithium love,” along with other references to prescription medication, strongly suggests that the gunman was taking psychiatric drugs that have been linked to violent outbursts.

As the Oregonian reports, “There are a number of indications that Harper-Mercer had mental health or behavioral issues. His screen name on some social media sites was “lithium love.” Lithium is used as a psychiatric medication.”

Lithium is used to enhance the effect of SSRI drugs, a number of which, “have also been linked to increase risk for violent, even homicidal behavior,” reports Time.

On one of his Facebook posts, Mercer also made reference to a number of different prescription drugs he was taking.

“I have a pill bottle with like five types of pills mixed in. I don’t know which ones are the sleep aids, so I just took four of each,” wrote Mercer.

The gunman was also struggling with his inability to find a girlfriend, which was one of the factors that contributed to Mercer’s mental health issues, according to his mother.

Ms. Harper also, “Expressed having expertise in autism, saying that both she and her son — whom she never identified by name — had Asperger’s syndrome,” reports the New York Times. She also revealed how Mercer was placed in a psychiatric hospital when he refused to take his medication.

Every time there is a mass shooting, the national debate centers around gun control, with any discussion of the link between psychiatric drugs and violent outbursts being relegated to the fringes.

As we previously highlighted, Charleston shooter Dylann Roof was reportedly taking a drug – suboxone – that has been linked with sudden outbursts of violence.

Virtually every major mass shooter, from Columbine killer Eric Harris, to ‘Batman’ shooter James Holmes, to Sandy Hook gunman Adam Lanza, was taking some form of SSRI or other pharmaceutical drug at the time of their attack.

The SSRI Stories website profusely documents literally hundreds of examples of mass shootings, murders and other violent episodes that have been committed by individuals on psychiatric drugs over the past three decades.

However, pharmaceutical giants who produce psychiatric drugs like Zoloft, Prozac and Paxil spend around $2.4 billion dollars a year on direct-to-consumer television advertising every year, meaning big networks are loathe to draw attention to the link between SSRIs and violence because they stand to lose millions in ad revenue.

Oregon Shooter's Mother Wrote About Guns in Online Forum

The mother of a gunman who killed nine people and himself at an Oregon community college allowed her troubled son to have guns and acknowledged in online posts that he struggled with autism, but she didn't seem to know he was potentially violent.

The online writings by Laurel Harper date from a year ago to nine years ago and offer fresh insight into the gunman, 26-year-old Christopher Harper-Mercer, and his relationship with his mother.

The Associated Press didn't speak with Harper about the postings, but in them she offered an email address that is linked to her.

Harper and son shared an apartment outside Roseburg. Investigators have recovered 14 firearms — six found at Umpqua Community College, where the killings occurred, and eight at the apartment.

Neighbors of mother and son in California, where they lived before moving to Oregon in 2013, have said Harper-Mercer and his mother would go target shooting together.

Investigators say Harper-Mercer's mother has told them the son was struggling with some mental health issues.

In her online postings, Laurel Harper talked about her love of guns and her son's emotional troubles but there are no hints of worry that he could become violent.

"I keep two full mags in my Glock case. And the ARs & AKs all have loaded mags. No one will be 'dropping' by my house uninvited without acknowledgement," reads a 3-year-old posting.

She was referring to a Glock handgun and to military-style rifles. A Glock and a military-style rifle were among the weapons seized after the Roseburg shooting rampage.

Laurel Harper wrote in another posting: "I love the long guns & I have an AK-47 en route." She complained about gun-control efforts in "lame states."

She posted several times that her son had Asperger's syndrome, a mild form of autism.

One posting reads: "He's no babbling idiot nor is his life worthless.

He's very intelligent and is working on a career in filmmaking."

She wrote that she read aloud to her unborn son from Donald Trump's "Art of The Deal."

Investigators have not yet said whether they suspect a motive in last Thursday's shooting rampage, where Harper-Mercer killed eight students and a teacher before killing himself.

While living in California, Harper-Mercer graduated from a learning center for students with learning disabilities and emotional problems. His parents divorced when he was a teenager and he lived with his mother.

Harper-Mercer's father, Ian Mercer, still lives in California. Over the weekend he said he had no idea his son had any guns.

"How on earth could he compile 13 guns? How could that happen?" Ian Mercer told CNN on Saturday.

You know, there may be something to this. I know these medications have all types of side effects as do other types of medications that are poo-poo'ed by the prescribing professionals who I believe don't have a clue not one clue about the effects of these drugs on their patients. They are sold the drugs by the pharmaceutical sales team, they lap it up like kittens in milk, and prescribe it without doing any of their own research on the medications.

It is entirely possible that these shootings involving people on these drugs are linked to the side effects of these drugs. To me, there's sufficient link to order an in-depth investigation of the relationship of these medications to the behavior of the patients prescribed them. It would seem that this would have been done before they were approved by the FDA to release to the public.

No one that is given RX drugs for mental issues or even a history of mental issues should be allowed to buy a gun. That area of gun control needs to be tightened up for sure. Sandy Hook shooter the same and other shooters too - enabling or dysfunctional parent, allowing guns at home, frequenting the firing range and very much aware of negative mental issues with their sons.

It still warrants an investigation of the drugs these people are on. There may be something there that's a much more direct link or cause than the mothers and their guns. The mental disorders mentioned like Aspergers and Autism do not to my knowledge cause this type of behavior so it may well be the side effects of these drugs that aren't monitored properly. It's almost like the shooter in Roseburg knew something was wrong with his medications, which is why he used the name Lithium Love to bring attention to it and blogged about it. Maybe the "Demons" were caused by the drugs he was taking.

The RX drugs have been suspected before but whether you are taking them or not, if you have mental issues, you should not be able to buy a gun. Plus, the older guy a few months back, had mental issues and there was some kind of paperwork that didn't come thru at the point of sale. That is absurd - not an area to be lax in paperwork. And if someone in the household has mental issues, lock your guns up, no free access.

I believe that in both instances, Oregon and Sandy Hook, the guns were legally purchased by the mothers and the mothers gave access to the guns to their children that had both been diagnosed with mental problems and were on medications. The responsibility falls to the person that owns the firearm to be accountable for keeping the firearm out of hands of those that are not mentally competent. JMO
