    School Language Requirement Problem

How about THIS dilemma? The new school our son will most likely be attending this coming school year has a language requirement as part of the required state standards BUT the ONLY language offered is SPANISH! Ergo...he is being forced to take it to satisfy the language requirement. What options do we have to contest this and insist he be allowed to take another language even if he must take it via another source (such as a satellite course or something)? My son already has one year of French and one year of Latin. He would like to take either of these for a 2nd year rather than start taking Spanish.

How about the Choctaw language? It is offered by computer and it is completely free except for the books!

ForFutureGenes2.....mine were forced to take it in Jr. High, but were given a choice in HS.

Now I know the world has changed and it's been awhile since I checked college requirements. For most college you had to have atleast 1-2 years of a foreign language. But it was required to have Latin for anything having to do in the medical field. For good reason. Are there any fields of study that require a specific language, that your son is being denied the oppertunity to learn, in order to follow the educational requirements for that field, by being forced to take Spanish? Just a thought to consider.
