2 Agricultural Shipments Refused Entry after Pests Found

RIO GRANDE CITY - Customs and Border Protection officials said agricultural specialists intercepted two dangerous pests at Rio Grande Valley ports of entry.

They discovered a moth in a shipment of broccoli at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge on November 4. It was identified as a Bulia schausi Richards. This is the first interception of the invasive species in the U.S.

The following week, agricultural species found another pest in a commercial shipment of ginger at the Rio Grande City International Bridge. The insect was identified as Myodocha unispinosa Stal, which is not known to occur in the U.S.

Both shipments were returned to Mexico.

Perhaps the Department of Agriculture should be guarding the border. They return pests to Mexico.

Until Mexico can certify their shipments as disease and pest free, ban them!!!!!!! Period, no seed, feed or food shipments allowed until it is done!!
