2 killed, 7 wounded in rash of shootings through New York City

Friday night was bloody — but actually this year is better than last. There were 1,166 people shot in the city in 2013 through Nov. 17, according to the latest available NYPD data, a 22% decrease from the same period last year.

A spate of shootings across the city beginning Friday night left two men dead and seven wounded during a bloody eight-hour span.
The night’s bloodshed began about 7:30 p.m. in the Bronx when 47-year-old Robert Adkins was shot in the upper body before his nightly dominoes game in a basement on Clay Ave. in Morris Heights, cops said. He died at the scene and cops were still looking for his killer late Saturday.

Soon after that shooting, a 24-year-old man was blasted on Westchester Ave. near Jackson Ave. He was rushed to Lincoln Hospital with a non-life-threatening wound.
Meanwhile, Jamel Taylor, 24, was shot in the buttocks on Schley Ave. inside of the Throggs Neck Houses about 8:50 p.m., police said. He was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center where he died early Saturday morning. Taylor had 43 prior arrests, cops said, on charges including assault, drug charges and trespassing. There were no arrests in his killing.

Minutes after Taylor was gunned down, a 32-year-old man was shot in the side of the head near Broad and Gordon Sts. in Staten Island, police said. He was expected to survive.
Back in the Bronx, two men were shot near Third Ave. and E. 165th in the Bronx shortly before 2 a.m., authorities said.

One victim, shot in the thigh, was brought to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition, sources said. A second man, who suffered a graze wound, hitched his own ride to the hospital.
There were 1,166 people shot in the city this year through Nov. 17, according to the latest available NYPD data, a 22% decrease from the same period last year. Murders this year are down 21% from last year, with 294 people killed through Nov. 17.

The carnage continued around 2 a.m. Saturday when a 29-year-old man was shot in the groin on Castleton Ave. in Staten Island. He crashed his car into a tree in front of Richmond University Medical Center as he tried to drive himself to the hospital. He was admitted in stable condition.
A 21-year-old man was shot in the chest in the bathroom of El Chicanito bar on E. 153rd St. near Third Ave. in the Bronx about 2:40 a.m., cops said. The critically wounded man was rushed to Lincoln Hospital.

In Brooklyn, a man arrived at Brookdale University Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest at 2:50 a.m. The victim, in critical condition, said he had been shot at Howard and Atlantic Aves.
