If Republicans take Senate seats away from Democrats tonight -- as all news media say they will -- it will be after a huge aerial attack of ads by Republicans tying Democrats to amnesty and an uncontrolled surge for foreign workers, according to the latest tabulations on TV advertising by Kantar Media's Campaign Media Analysis Group.
The political opinion magazine Weekly Standard today made a powerful observation about the heavy Republican advertising against the components of "comprehensive immigration reform" in the top Senate races:
" . . . if Republicans take the Senate, it would be hard for objective observers not to view the result as a repudiation of the Democrats on immigration, spending, and -- most of all -- Obamacare. The other issues are not ours. But the fact that top Republican strategists took our side on immigration in their ads is really important for the next fight we are likely to have -- and that is with the corporate lobbyists who dominate the national Republican leadership.
"Such a result would be quite interesting, in light of previous proclamations. . . . in the wake of the 2012 election, an army of mainstream pundits and Republican consultants declared that the immigration issue would doom Republicans until they dutifully hopped aboard the amnesty train.
"But neither Obamacare nor amnesty is good for Main Street America, and Main Street Americans get to vote--even if the New York Times's opinion pages wish it were otherwise."
We are already seeing stories about the plans of the open-borders corporate lobbies to persuade a Republican Senate to increase immigration levels once they take over in January.
But that effort should be blunted by the news about how much money Republican campaign committees spent attacking Demo crats for trying to raise the number of immigrant work permits.
Knowledge of the huge anti-amnesty GOP ad campaigns is something we can leverage.
We will all have to go to work immediately after the elections to remind new Republicans that they were elected to put immigration under control for the benefit of American workers.
Come to our home page for more analysis as the full elec tion results begin to emerge.
BTW, the huge Republican anti-amnesty ad campaign was in addition to the million-dollar ad campaign that NumbersUSA ran the last three weeks reminding voters (without mentioning any names) that it is Congress that continues to engorge the labor market with millions of immigrant workers while real wages fall and the number of working-age Americans outside the labor market rises.
See the ad and read the story about it on our hom e page.
