'Smuggle Truck: Operation Immigration' iPhone App Draws Outrage

Want to smuggle immigrants across the border?

Well, there's an app for that.

It's a game called "Smuggle Truck: Operation Immigration" and it's causing outrage. Developed by a Boston-based tech company, the game allows users to drive a truck full of immigrants across the U.S.-Mexican border and through the desert, all the while trying to keep the human cargo from falling off. Scores are calculated by the number of immigrants helped crossing the border.

The most careful drivers are awarded a "Green Card" for saving passengers' lives. On the other hand, the "Smugglers Run" award goes to “pedal-to-the-medal reckless speed-run driving, with a minimum of one safe passenger.â€

"Human trafficking is not a game, leave to people to make money anyway they can!"

Well they let Grand Theft Auto go be sold and look at that one. Good old freedom of speach.

Did you see in the article where someone called the game Racist? It seems like they don't even know what Racist means and just throw it around at anything they don't like.

I just came across a post at Sociological Images about an outrageously racist flash video game called Border Patrol. They note that in the game, “you try to keep three types of Mexicans from crossing the border: drug dealers, Mexican nationalists, and ‘breeders.’â€

Break Through Games today released a video game where the player takes on the role of an immigrant to the United States whose legal status is questionable, and whose goal is not to be deported (or detained):

This game is all about barriers, mostly those that immigrants to the U.S. face in becoming legal citizens. However, the first barrier you will encounter comes long before you start up the game. Clicking on the download button will immediately get you into a hassle with your computer’s pop-up blocker. You are then asked to take a survey about immigration. In this questionnaire you have to answer questions like “Immigrants harm the economy by taking jobs away from citizens and by not paying taxesâ€
