Amnesty is supposed to be a big winner for Democrats.They call it “comprehensive immigration reform,” and Democrats – and “moderate” Republicans like the Main Street Partnership who are partnering with the US Chamber of Commerce and the Democratic Party to grant amnesty to some 15 million illegal aliens can’t say it often enough. People like John McCain and John Boehner keep howling that Republicans will never win the White House if we don’t embrace amnesty. We here at Curmudgeon Central would offer that we haven’t been able to win the Presidency with people who are whole hearted supporters of amnesty – are you listening Senator McCain?
Anyway, we find it very interesting that so far two Republicans have featured real border security and opposition to amnesty as integral parts of their campaigns in the Republican primaries. David Brat and David Jolly, from Virginia and Florida respectively, both won. And Brat beat Eric Cantor, a top of the line amnesty supporter.
Turns out we’re now seeing Republican Senatorial candidates who are running against incumbents running anti-amnesty ads. The first is from Scott Brown in New Hampshire, he’s running in the New Hampshire primary and if he wins, he’ll face off against Jeanne Shaheen who is full blooded pro-amnesty. Here’s Scott.




“We intend to enforce the law.” Not issue new laws by executive fiat, enforce our existing laws. We have to be honest, we’d love to have heard Brown say something like, “If you come here illegally we’re going to send you home on the first mode of transportation out of the US.” Our trust level for Mr. Brown isn’t all that high, but at the very least, he’s giving notice that he’s willing to talk seriously about border security and deportation. We doubt Senator xx will be so inclined.
Next up, Tom Cotton, running against Mark Prior of Louisiana. Cotton has been pounding Prior on ObamaCare and now he’s going after him on amnesty.

We like Cotton’s ad better, heck, we like Cotton better, but again, he’s attacking the incumbent on amnesty and doing it directly.
We don’t know what the outcome of all this will be, but we do think that if the ads are successful we’ll see more Republicans going after their Democratic opponents on this issue. Also, if amnesty is a top tier issue going into November we may even see some hesitation on the part of President Obama.
