    I MUST Confess...

I haven't been to confession for the LONGEST time. WHY? Because it seems I simply CAN'T find an American Catholic priest who is a PATRIOT! As one who strives to be a TRUE patriot, I just CANNOT in GOOD conscience confess to a priest who SUPPORTS ILLEGAL immigration! My Brazilian friend and I have reminded local priests time and again that illegal immigration is a CRIME and that AIDING and ABETTING illegal immigration is a FEDERAL felony. However, the priests either reply that, as part of their Christian duty, they NEED to assist illegals. Or the priests say NOTHING! My friend and I have long suspected that the priests are AFRAID of the bishop (a PRO-illegal, of course!), or the illegals, or BOTH!

It’s all about money! The mass number of illegal immigrants are Catholic and religious. The churches are getting the pews filled again, and the offering basket is showing a profit again. And the Vatican loves that! Do I need to say more?

    joazinha,

Don't feel bad. I haven't been to confession in 30 years, but I just know in my bones that I will go to Heaven. I now believe I don't need a human being (priest) to grant me forgiveness (especiallly since those humans have been caught molesting little boys) in the name of God. Today, I deal directly with God. I am so much more comfortable with that, because with that kind of direct connection, I find that I HAVE TO BE MORE HONEST confessing my wrongdoings. Afterall, I am talking directly to God, and he knows everything! I can't fool him.

There is something more compelling to be truthful when you deal directly with HIM, rather than a human being who I can fool.

But that's just me. It is up to you to decide what is best for you. Good luck to you and your Brazilian friend.

Sounds like the Catholic Church has become a bunch of child abusing money grabbing thugs who hide behind the name of the Lord. No backbone here either. Everyone, grab grab grab, grab all the money you can before it's too late..

I think the abuse of children is really getting out of hand. Society has a problem and it's getting worse. This is just part of the article, but it sets alarm bells off where children are concerned. Every parent should definately get involved in knowing all your child's teachers, priests, ministers, rabbis, troop leaders ect.. IMHO

Worse than Catholic clergy sex scandal?

In today's sexually permissive school environment, just how prevalent is the teacher-student sex problem?

Get ready for a shock. According to a major 2004 study commissioned by the U.S. Department of Education – the most in-depth investigation to date – nearly 10 percent of U.S. public school students have been targeted with unwanted sexual attention by school employees.

Titled "Educator Sexual Misconduct: A Synthesis of Existing Literature," the report says the mistreatment of students ranges from sexual comments to rape. In fact, says the study's author Charol Shakeshaft, professor of educational administration at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y., the scope of the school-sex problem appears to far exceed the clergy-abuse scandal that has recently rocked the Roman Catholic Church.

Comparing the incidence of sexual misconduct in schools with the Catholic Church scandal, Shakeshaft notes that a recent study by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops concluded 10,667 young people were sexually mistreated by priests between 1950 and 2002.

In contrast, she extrapolates from a national survey conducted for the American Association of University Women Educational Foundation in 2000 that roughly 290,000 students experienced some sort of physical sexual abuse by a public school employee between 1991 and 2000.

The figures suggest "the physical sexual abuse of students in schools is likely more than 100 times the abuse by priests," said Shakeshaft, according to Education Week.

Indeed, more than 4.5 million students are subject to sexual misconduct by an employee of a school sometime between kindergarten and 12th grade, says the report.

The National Education Association disputes Shakshaft's conclusion, Education Week said, calling it "a misuse of the data to imply that public schools and the Catholic Church have experienced the same level of abuse cases."

"I take great umbrage at that suggestion," said NEA spokeswoman Kathleen Lyons. "That just seems like someone is reaching conclusions based on half the data that's needed."

Shakeshaft acknowledged many factors could alter the analysis, including undercounting of youth abused by priests, but she argued this provides impetus for better research.

"Educator sexual misconduct is woefully understudied," Shakeshaft says in her report. "We have scant data on incidence and even less on descriptions of predators and targets. There are many questions that call for answers."

Absolutely, it is all about money and numbers and nothing about God and the good of the nation or its people. It is a SAD, SAD to see.

I'm of Italian backround (therefore Catholic), and left the Church a long time ago. It's an Empire - even a state (the Vatican) in itself. When you have such a hierarchy of power (cardinals, bishops, etc) there is going to be corruption. Then you have the sex scandals, and now immigration policy. So I'm the last person to make apologies for the Catholic Church. Having said all that, religion is supposed to look to a higher authority than the country they are in. The Nazis demanded a "patriotic" Protestant and Catholic Church - and only a few religious leaders were brave enough to speak out. I know that's a drastic example. I oppose the Catholic Church's stance on illegal immigration - but I don't expect them to put patriotism or nationalism first. That's just not what religions are meant for.
