Only a few weeks left in lame-duck session; Please don't let up now!

Chris ChmielenskiOn two separate occasions this week, there were rumors that a DREAM Act vote in the House was less than 24 hours away. But each time, House Leaders backed off.

Why? Because of the tremendous amount of phone calls and faxes flowing into their Congressional offices thanks to you! But don't let up now! We need you to keep the pressure on!

Visit your Action Board for new faxes to send to all three of your Members of Congress and phone notes with a list of talking points. Then, call your Members of Congress through the Capitol Switchboard -- 202-224-3141. Just ask for your Congressmen's office, and when connected, tell them you oppose the DREAM Act Amnesty!

All week long, Capitol Hill has been in total chaos. Never before have we seen so much scrambling and reshuffling in one week. Sen. Dick Durbin has now authored at least four different versions of the DREAM Act in an attempt to silence the critics, and only a select few even know which version they'll ultimately vote on.

We can only assume that each time we hear a vote is imminent, that the House Leadership is confident they have the 218 votes needed to pass the bill. But as I wrote above, they've pulled back at least twice this week because of your action!

Please continue making your phone calls and sending faxes. We know this is a busy time of year, but we only have a few weeks left until the 111th Congress runs out of time. Without mandatory E-Verify and other sufficient enforcement measures, the DREAM Act Amnesty will hurt unemployed Americans and encourage future illegal immigration. Don't let this happen now!

All the tinkering with the DREAM Act amnesty to try to get some extra votes to pass the bill is failing to address what probably is the single biggest problem with the bill. That would be its failure to turn off the jobs magnet that allowed the illegal-alien parents of the illegal-alien students to raise them in this country and into their present predicament.

Sen. Sessions Urges Fellow Senators to Oppose the DREAM Act

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), who also serves as the Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, addressed a letter to his Senate colleagues urging them to oppose the DREAM Act. In his letter, Sen. Sessions criticized the Leadership's decision to bypass committee markup of several different versions of the bill and their unwillingness to have the costs of the bill scored by the Congressional Budget Office.

Rep. Steve King Requests Cost Analysis of the DREAM Act

Ranking Member of the House Immigration Subcommittee Steve King (R-Iowa) is requesting a release of the Congressional Budget Office's score of the DREAM Act. The CBO analyzes the potential cost or savings of bills offered in Congress. Rep. King says the DREAM Act could cost as much as $20 billion.

2.1 Million: An Estimate, For Starters

The Migration Policy Institute estimates that 2.1 million illegal aliens could be immediately eligible for legalization should the DREAM Act pass into law. As with all estimates, this one is based on a series of assumptions - some worth questioning - but "2.1 million" is a useful number to use when considering the potential numerical impact of the legislation.

Most 'Undecideds' Should Break Against DREAM Amnesty (but bill modifications are wild card)

Your outpouring of phone calls and faxes these past 12 days has pushed the expected NO votes to the point that we think if the vote were held today that we'd have the 41 votes needed to kill DREAM with a filibuster. But the opposition is changing the bill by softening some of its most egregious aspects. You have done such a good job of pointing out loopholes that the amnesty sponsors have introduced new versions of DREAM.
