Dear Friends,

We have some great progress to report!

After spending some quality time with the voters back home, the
Republicans have returned to Washington with border security on their
mind! Great work, friends! Your efforts—all the calls and letters and
visits—have paid off. We have stopped amnesty for at least 60 days.
It
is anyone’s bet what these fellows might try to do in a lame duck
session.

Here is what House Speaker Denny Hastert had to say on his return to
Washington: “Our border is a sieve. We are at war. We certainly
need
to act like we’re at war. We need to close our borders. The Congress
cannot wait until next year to take on this issue.”

He got it!! He finally got it!!

Congress is looking at passing several immigration measures in the next
few weeks, including additional fencing, more money for the Border
Patrol
and a number of enforcement measures. However, I haven’t seen any talk
of
mandatory verification of employees. That’s what frightens their
corporate
friends. And without it, we know Republicans are not serious about
stopping this invasion. It’s all for show.

As for the Senate, we may have touched a nerve there as well. Senator
Frist announced yesterday that a “comprehensive” immigration bill was
out
of the question before the elections. Instead they will focus on
border
security.

Senator Kennedy went ballistic when he heard the news. Something good
must
be happening.

But Republicans have been in office 6 years and have done nothing.
Voters
are going to expect a lot more than talk come November.

While their talk is good in Washington, look at their actions in
Arizona.
When our Prop 200 hero, Randy Graf moved ahead in the polls, the
Republican party bought $150,000 worth of ads for his opponent, an open
border liberal Republican, Steve Huffman. This week they had the
Republican Parties of Colorado and New Mexico send $5,000 each to
Huffman.
They’re working overtime to beat a Tancredo/Team America candidate.

So you have to wonder how serious –if at all—these Republicans are
about
securing our borders and enforcing the laws.

We’ll keep you appraised and let you know when calls will again be
necessary.

One last point. Last year two Border Patrol agents shot a drug
smuggler
trying to bring 734 pounds of marijuana into the country. So what
happens? First, charges are filed against the agents. Then the US
Attorney’s office gives full amnesty to the smuggler so he can testify
against the agents. Then the smuggler, who was given complete medical
care at a US hospital, is suing the border patrol for violating his
civil
rights. The agents face up to 25 years in prison.

You tell me, whose side is this government on?

As soon as I hear of any immigration legislation that is going to be
introduced I’ll let you know.

Also next week we’ll be watching Randy Graf’s race and reviewing all
other
races in which we feel we can make a difference. I’ll give you a
report
then.

Have a great weekend.

My best,
Bay Buchanan
