If you speak with activists Roy Beck of NumbersUSA or Mark Krikorian of CIS what they will tell you is that they have a lmited practical definition of success. What they want is to have the number of illegal aliens decline and half those here now return to their home country over the next Presidential administration.

The idea of having half the illegal aliens living here now leave and go home and declining numbers of illegals coming in from Mexico is actually shared by the Calderon administration. The condition it puts on that is that the illegal aliens not have to leave unexpectedly unplanned and return with savings to invest in Mexico.

There is an ethno poltical power bloc that do not want the illegal aliens to leave. The more Latinos that are here the larger their social services programs can be and the more loyal their citizen voter relatives. Businesses which depend on cheap labor are also a good source of money for programs and campaigns. LULAC MALDEF LA RAZA

There is going to be increasing likelyhood of a split between the tendencies. The two Mexiican pro development nationalists and the Mexican American poltical machine have an overlap but do not have identical goals.

The more successful the Felipe Calderon government is the fewer families dependent on the Mexican American machine politics here there are going to be.

If La Maquina succeeds there are going to be large parts of Mexico where the communities are ghost towns devoid of any working age people and their only economic activity is the building houses that families can not afford to maintain unless the young remain in the States.

Juan Hernandez despite having been in the Fox government is by his actions more a creature of La Maquina. Sen. John McCain gives the impression that he is more a supporter of cheap labor and La Maquina than a successful future of Mexico.

Although it may seem a radical move it would be a good idea to try to help the Felipe Calderon government achieve it's own goals against La Maquina because John McCain shares even less with our interests.

It is not up to us to create the savings for the illegal aliens. The remittance money being sent should be the source of savings. Right now there is a tendency to consume instead of save. What we can collaborate on is education to change consumption habits to investment and production habits.

Even legal Mexican Americans on our side have relatives tempted to come here illegally. If they can be persuaded to invest where they are from the relatives are less likely to come.
