MIAMI —
A Miami-based human rights group is protesting the deportation of Haitians to the nation grappling with the aftermath of an earthquake, a cholera outbreak and a disputed election.
The Haitian-American Grassroots Coalition says about 3,000 Haitians who have served time in jail are being targeted for removal. Group leader Jean-Robert Lafortune calls this policy "a lapse in judgment" that could have serious consequences for a fragile Haiti.
The group is holding a rally on Monday in Miami's Little Haiti neighborhood.
