Are Americans, skilled or unskilled, working at all.

Are Americans, skilled are unskilled, working at all.

Jobs are being outsourced to Mexico and other countries.
12 million plus Illegals are doing jobs Americans want do?
Are Americans working at all? If so, what are the jobs that skilled and unskilled Americans workers doing?
The maintenance men at my complex have just been replaces with 2 Mexicans.
My grandson, who is trying to find work to help him finance his college education, cannot find a job. He is one of those people that Bush accuse of not want to work.
Illegals have thoses jobs that our young used to do as after school or part-time.

My biggest problem with Bush is how he says "once it has been determined that there are no Americans for that job" but never explains what the procedure is to come to that conclusion. I mean do you place an ad in the paper for a week, and if nobody replies, you call Mexico? I really doubt anything like that is happening. Obviously, an ad is placed and they hire whoever the hell applies who is willing to work for the lowest amount. And we all know who that is...

Mexicans for the most part DO have a great work ethic though. Gotta be fair here.

The county I live in is mostly farmers who grow corn and soy beans, it is a rural area in the midwest. We only have two factories in the entire county. The majority of residents of the county whom are not farmers were employed by these two factories. Most of these people have lost their jobs and were replaced by hispanics, residents of this county now drive 35-60 miles to work with high gas prices. They have to travel outside the county to find work. Our american teenagers use to find work at the local mcdonald's and burger king, they have all been replaced by hispanics. A teenager here cannot find a job. Our area didn't have alot of jobs to begin with and now it is almost impossible to find a job in this area for most. In a city 14 miles from here all the manufacturing jobs, the majority of construction, restaurants, fast food, motels have been taken over by hispanics.

Well, my husband once worked at Xerox and was re-placed by Mexicans and even with a class action suit...lost the job to make sure they were equally represented in the company. He was a dept. manager at K-Mart and that position was lost due to down-sizing. Now he's 52 and delivering pizza part time and he's the only American citizen outside of the owner and maybe 2 pizza makers. Still looking for other jobs as even night stock etc. but everytime he goes there's a minimum of 100 other people, all younger, legal citizens, other minorities, and other older people all applying for the same job. Minimum wage jobs. He has done work at a chicken farm, kitchen help, factory sorting......part time, temp. anything.

I worked and ran a Chiropractic clinic. Therapy, x-rays, insurance etc. Those jobs do not pay near what I used to get and now requires must speak spanish. Other medical offices as receptionist but now require spanish. I did retail, cashier, stock, supervisor, "key holder" which today means what used to be asst. manager without the pay and all the responsibilities. Restaurant work. Bartender. Gold wire bonding. Chicken farm. Maid. Sprout farm. Night stocker. Delivered phone books.....really just about anything except hooker and drug dealer or porno star. Gee.....forgot nursing home in dietary, kitchen and housekeeping. Also bred Silky Terriers years ago.

Gold wire bonding was out sourced. Like I said some now require Spanish. I was in an auto accident with an illegal and had my hips broken as well as ribs so now can't do alot of the heavy lifting and on the feet all day sort of work I used to do. Chicken farm went to illegals. Sprout farm went out of business. And basicly I'm competing with every high-school kid, mom, retiree, and anyone else for anything left to do. All minimum wage jobs and still un-employed living from what my parents left me when they died. Which will be gone very soon and each day it gets scarier and scarier coz gas still goes up, food goes up, taxes go up, insurance goes up and there's continuing health problems with no insurance. So.....this is just the story of a couple of aging American citizens. Both have college. Experience and have done all the jobs Americans supposidly won't do in order to get by.

Ex-husband did carpentry that went out of business for cheap labor and now does maintence work in a hospital but contracted hepB and now has liver cancer.....but is basicly secure till he retires since he got the hep at the hospital. But does nothing after that for any retirement and not much of a chance for any suplimental income, insurance or anything else.

Two kids. Bright, good grades, one in college and working her way through since she can't qualify for any aid, and having to do it on a part-time basis. Told point blank if she were black or mexican she would have a grant.......but she's from poor white.... She's caring for mostly hispanic children who are legal with parents who may or may not be legal.

    So.....we're all existing. So far.

The owner of my company has considered bringing in Mexicans for some of the lower-end jobs on several occasions, but on each occasion I have talked him into hiring worthy Americans. Call me crazy but I had rather hire a qualified American at $15/hr. than an illegal at $5 or $6/hr. It has worked out pretty well for us, with sales up almost tenfold in the last couple of years. We have also resisted the temptation to move our manufacturing to China. Cheap labor seems tempting until you factor in the long-term costs to our country.

Skilled journeyman in Electrical trades (linemen, inside wiremen), pipefitters, structual & pipeline welders,OCAW (oil, chemical, atomic workers) are still majority held by legal english speaking citizens. Not to mention city, county, utility jobs. Here in Southern California. But you can not compete in the low-non skilled trades like Drywall, painting, masonary, basic laborer's (trench diggers, concrete mixers) etc... The illegal population has a strong hold on those jobs.

Masonry is a skill, which at one time paided well, just as Carpentry use too. I have seen my yearly income drop by a good percentage due to Illegal influx into Construction. Those fields you mentioned will suffer the same fate, give it time.

You may be right. but as for now, not just anybody can walk into the IBEW and say "ill do that job for less". You actually need to know alot of technical tranning, blueprint reading (they don't make spanish version blueprints), then there is the saftey factors. Min. 8000 hrs apprenticeship. So basically if someone can do these jobs, they earned it.

Been there done that I've worked hard labor, retail, etc. All those jobs we supposedly won't do. Oh well.....

I have heard the politicians say the economy would crumble if we sent the illegals home. That didn't make a lot of sense at first, but it might if you look at all of the home and car loans that would be defaulted on. The banks would crash pretty hard.
