Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Wednesday that Florida will move to designate several domestic and foreign organizations as terrorist groups under a new state law that took effect July 1, saying the state will not allow public funds to support organizations tied to terrorism. DeSantis said his administration will ask the Florida Cabinet to ratify the first round of designations under HB 1471, which created a formal process for identifying terrorist organizations under state law. The initial list includes the Muslim Brotherhood, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, or CAIR, Antifa, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran and several transnational criminal organizations, including the Sinaloa Cartel and Tren de Aragua. “My office and the cabinet are poised to officially designate the first slew of terrorist organizations under the new law that will be a reaffirmation of my prior executive order for the Muslim Brotherhood and the Council of American-Islamic Relations,” DeSantis said.
