CANBY, Ore. -- A second man was arrested Monday in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 42-year-old Gulf War veteran.

Reynaldo Gabino-Martinez, age 22, was arrested Monday evening and charged with Burglary I. According to Canby Police, more charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues.

A 30-year-old Canby man was arraigned earlier Monday for the alleged crime.

Alejandro Ramos-Gonzalez pleaded innocent to rape, kidnapping and burglary charges.

Meanwhile, two days after the woman was allegedly raped by five men, police said they have solid leads on the other suspects.

Ramos-Gonzalez was arrested Sunday and lodged at the Clackamas County Jail on charges of first-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping and first-degree burglary, said officer Chris Mead of Canby Police.

Gonzalez reportedly has gang-related ties, he said.

"It's horrific," Mead said of the rape, "for anyone to go through."

Investigators said they expect more arrests in the case, which involved five men attacking the victim at her apartment in the southeast part of town.

The victim, who was transported to a local hospital, said the men entered her apartment through an open front door around 9 p.m. and held her hostage until 4 a.m., Mead said. Two of them dragged the woman into her bedroom and raped her.

Mead said multiple sexual assaults occurred during those 7 hours.

"They wouldn't let her go," he said.

He said the woman, who did not know the suspects, was afraid to leave her apartment because they told her if she reported the crime she'd be harmed. The victim called police at 10 a.m. from a local grocery store.

"Canby's a safe town," Mead said. "People do feel comfortable leaving their windows and doors open in the heat. Unfortunately this incident occurred."

Actually, from I've been given to understand, it's all about "machismo". Women don't have the right to refuse them. In my mind, it's a stone age mentality.

These men are filthy animals, the way they leer at all woman and female children as sex objects is criminal. This is the culture they have in their own countries no respect for woman at all. Woman are to be used for sex and making babies and that is accepted in their countries. They bring that culture to our country but the women here are different and not subservient thus the rapes.
Freedom isn't free... Don't forget the men who died and gave that right to all of us....

This is what our President and our Senate are fostering on the American citizens. We should deport the lot of them.

I was married to a hispanic. My ex tried his "women don't have rights" attitude with me and found out real quick that I would not tolerate it. So, then he cheated on me and I promptly kicked him to the curb, made him pay everything for the divorce and told him he got off lucky.

My hispanic male friends, on the otherhand showed me a very different side. This is the side that I don't think many people get to see. They respected me and this respect was not given often nor lightly. We were all military and perhaps that had some part in it but they never once tried to force anything on me. Whenever we went out, they always made sure I was safe.

In both cases, not one would dare disrespect and/or disobey their mother. They all practically revere their mothers.

So, yes you are right about the "machismo" factor and the negative aspect, but there's also a positive side to it. I guess you have to experience it to really understand it though.

Just wanted to add a follow-up note...

As you undoubtedly noticed, there is no mention of the perp's immigration /citizenship status.

To help clarify things and in the interest of technical accuracy, I emailed a brief inquiry to the city involved (using general purpose email contact) regarding their policy in handling arrested individuals immigration status and the like. I sent this question on the 4th immediately after the story broke here in town. As of my writing (10:15am Pacific, 7/6/06) still no reply.
If I receive one, I'll post it.

That comment can come across the wrong way rather easily. I'm hoping you were just being sarcastic.

Look, I'm not by any means saying ALL male hispanics are the same as my friends. My intent was simply to demonstrate that there is another and often not observed side of the "machismo" in response to a previous comment regarding the hispanic culture.

    PhredE,

Good luck with getting a response. Their status probably won't be made public until there's a conviction (if any).
