    Armey Endorses Illegal Immigration Fighter Mike Lee

    Armey to endorse GOP primary challenger to Sen. Bennett Thursday
    By Alexander Bolton - 02/18/10 12:38 PM ET

    Former House Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-Texas) has decided to endorse a Republican primary challenger to Sen. Bob Bennett (Utah).

    Armey plans to announce his support for Mike Lee on Thursday at the CPAC conference of movement conservatives and Tea Party activists in Washington.

    Conservatives such as Erick Erickson, editor in chief of RedState.com, have called for Bennett's defeat because of how they view his centrist record in the Senate, such as the 2008 vote for the Wall Street bailout.

    Lee is running to the right of Bennett and has challenged the incumbent lawmaker, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, to support a one-year moratorium on earmarks.

    "I believe our federal government is too big and too expensive and plays far too much of a role in our lives," Lee told reporters at CPAC.

    Armey told The Hill that he would announce his support for Lee on Thursday afternoon.

    Speaking to conferees earlier in the day, Armey declared that Republicans in Congress had lost sight of their ideals.

    "I'll say to Republicans: Will you show us you know how to be you?" Armey said. "Will you understand that when you're like [Democrats] you lose?"

    Here's Mike Lee's stance on illegal immigration:

    The Constitution makes clear that the federal government is responsible for making and enforcing laws governing immigration. The federal government has dropped the ball in this area, allowing—and in some instances even encouraging—tens of millions of people to enter our borders illegally. Congress needs to fix this problem by:

    1. Investing in the technology, personnel, and physical infrastructure necessary to secure the southern border and enforce existing immigration laws;
    2. Improving and promoting the use of E-Verify—a nationwide immigration-status verification system designed to enable employers to ascertain quickly and accurately whether would-be employees are authorized to work in the United States;
    3. Mandating and enforcing the denial of federal and state welfare benefits to illegal immigrants;
    4. Requiring illegal aliens who commit federal crimes in the United States to serve their prison sentences in their countries of origin (in foreign prisons operating under a contract with the U.S. government, with proper assurances that all prison terms would be completed); and
    5. Making clear that illegal aliens will not receive amnesty in any form, and must return to their own countries before applying for a visa; illegal aliens should receive no benefit from having entered the United States illegally, and should not be granted guest-worker visas or the opportunity to “purchaseâ€

    I thought this was an interesting blog.

    DOES THIS MAN BELONG IN THE SENATE?

    When somebody says something dumb, it’s usually for one of two reasons.

    Either because he’s dumb, or because he thinks you’re dumb.

    Either he’s so dumb that he doesn’t know better, or he thinks you’re so dumb that you don’t know better. Either way, it’s no good, because he’s either an idiot or a conman.

    Which brings us to Mike Lee.

    He’s one of four Republicans hoping to unseat Sen. Bob Bennett at the Utah GOP’s nominating convention this spring. The former counsel to liberal Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr., and a one-time clerk to Obama-defying Supreme Court Justice Sam Alito, Mike Lee is also the son of the late Rex E. Lee, a well-beloved Utahn who was solicitor general of the United States and president of Brigham Young University.

    He’s also a guy who said something dumb. Or, more precisely, wrote something dumb.

    On his campaign website – www.mikelee2010.com -- he, naturally, has a section devoted to issues. One of those issues is illegal immigration. After saying various things – none of which was “deny them citizenshipâ€

    He said 2 things that were dumb, not only the one about serving their prison sentences in their home countries which is laughable, he also said illegal aliens should re-apply for entry like everyone else. Why would we want any illegal alien who has already broken our immigration laws and can't be trusted to abide the terms of entry to "re-apply" like everyone else who hasn't broken our laws and thus holds the presumption of trust to abide the terms of entry into the US?
