Arsenal Youngster Jack Jebb Fined and Banned for Racial Abuse
Arsenal Youngster Jack Jebb Fined and Banned for Racial Abuse

Jack Jebb, Arsenal’s highly rated teenage midfielder, faces an uncertain future after he was banned for four matches by the FA for racially abusing an opponent.
The 18-year-old’s charge dates back to March when he faced Norwich in an Under-18 encounter.
David Kent of the Daily Mail provides the details:Sportsmail understands that it was not a Norwich player or member of the management team that reported the abuse, but that the charge was brought forward by the match officials. As a result, Jebb has been fined £1,800 and suspended from action, but the greater consequence may prove to be the impact it has on his Arsenal future.
In July the FA charged him on breach of rule E3—"using abusive and/or insulting words"—but the allegation also "included a reference to ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race."
Likened to namesake Jack Wilshere in his Arsenal profile, the creative midfielder impressed across seven appearances for last season’s U18 side. Jebb even managed to net a delicious free kick against Leicester U18s, and he currently possesses the No. 47 squad number.

However, Arsene Wenger is known for setting extremely high moral standards at his club. For instance, he has been vocal against the act of diving in the past. As Kent notes, "The club has a zero-tolerance policy towards racist abuse or discrimination and is rightly proud of its multicultural identity," so Jebb's ban will not go unnoticed.
The Premier League has suffered a handful of high-profile racism cases across the last few years and will be wary of Jebb's behaviour after this incident.
Luis Suarez received an eight-match ban and fine of £40,000 in 2011 after being found guilty of racially abusing Patrice Evra on the pitch, while John Terry was slapped with a four-match ban and £22,000 fine for using racist language towards Anton Ferdinand.
As reported by Eurosport, Arsenal’s policy toward acts of racism could see Jebb punished further. Since the incident took place last year, he escapes the minimum five-match ban now imposed by the FA.
Whether disciplinary action is taken by the club or not, the young Gunners midfielder has soured his professional reputation before setting foot into a senior game.

NASCAR
Nelson Piquet Jr. Penalized for Violating NASCAR's Code of Conduct Policy

Nationwide Series driver Nelson Piquet Jr. has been fined $10,000 and placed on indefinite probation, and he will have to attend sensitivity training after using a gay slur on social media.
In the announcement, NASCAR's senior vice president of racing operations, Steve O’Donnell, explained the governing body's decision:Nelson Piquet Jr. recently communicated an offensive and derogatory term that cannot be tolerated in our sport. NASCAR’s Code of Conduct explicitly spells out in the 2013 rule book our position regarding the use of disparaging terms. We expect our entire industry to abide by this Code.Piquet, who drives the No. 30 car for Turner Scott Motorsports, also released a statement to apologize for his choice of words:I sincerely apologize to everyone for my poor choice of words last week. I did not mean to hurt or offend anyone. This has been a cultural learning experience that will make me a more sensitive person moving forward. The message has since been removed, but Bob Pockrass of Sporting News reports the remark that landed Piquet in hot water was directed toward another driver. While commenting on a photo that Nationwide Series driver Parker Kligerman posted of himself, Piquet used a three-letter slur as a one-word description of Kligerman. The word is offensive to a homosexual. Now that punishment has been handed down by NASCAR, Piquet should finally be able to move past the incident. It was a learning experience not only for the 28-year-old Brazilian, but also for fellow drivers and athletes across the sports spectrum.

Even if Piquet posted the comment in a joking manner, which he previously said was the case, that's not enough for him to avoid scrutiny. Any message on social media can be viewed by fans around the world and send the wrong message.
Based on his comments, the former Formula 1 driver seems to understand the mistake, and the hard-line punishment reinforces NASCAR's stance on such issues. Those types of slurs won't be overlooked, and penalties will follow if they are used.
Piquet had been enjoying a solid season on the Nationwide Series. He sits 12th in the standings with five races left in the season.
Unfortunately, his four top-10 finishes are now being overshadowed by his off-track actions.
