    The art of the debate.

I am new to online forums and would like to start a thread on the art of debating the controversial topics of the day. We all know that there are a lot of people on various forums that are almost impossible to converse with in an adult and or intelligent manor. I have learned the following debate guide lines for dealing with those that you disagree (or agree) with:

Treat everyone as if you are talking to them in person.

Treat everyone with the respect that you ask of others.

State facts as facts and opinions as opinions.

Be willing to admit you are wrong.

Do not back down from your ideals or beliefs.

    Try to stay open minded.

Do not resort to name calling. This gets you nowhere.

Ignore those that are just looking for a fight.

Research the claims that others make.

Backup your claims with links whenever possible.

Take note of the comments of those you disagree with and use these comments to defeat them. This tactic is used by lawyers in courtrooms every day. People who lie or make untrue statements will almost always trip themselves up with their own comments.

Follow the guide lines or rules of discussion on the forum you are visiting.

Please add any tips or ideas that you have to this list.
Thank you for taking the time to read my opinions on this topic.

Voatnow1 I applaud your debating techniques. I, however, believe you'd be the only one following your suggestions. The other side doesn't debate, they call us names and make accusations and threaten us. I'm afraid the time for debating in an adult and respectful manner is over.
Besides, what has debating the issues gotten us? It seems to me it's just given the other side time to prepare for the next step.

    VOATNOW1,

I think your advice for carrying on debates is excellent. KickEmOut, political action is what this group is about. Anything else would be something that ALIPAC does not endorse.
