Here is another foolhardy article posted in the alipac forum this time of which I will pick apart piece by piece in here:

Editorial: Willmar and region benefit from our diversity; caution needed immigrant discussion
Tribune Opinion
West Central Tribune - 04/14/2007

Willmar is experiencing the front line of the immigration debate currently going on in America.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have been conducting investigations in Willmar in recent days. According to an ICE spokesman, the agency is searching for specific individuals and not conducting sweeping raids.

At the same time, Latino immigrants here legally and those without proper papers have lived in fear in recent days.

The community has also been dealing with rumors and considerable dialogue. Some are celebrating the ICE actions in Willmar. Others are criticizing the ICE actions here.

Care should be used by all concerned, and everyone should be cautious in their comments.

Many Latinos in Willmar are here legally. Many were born here in the United States and are citizens. Others have obtained legal immigration status.

Yes, there are some here illegally. If an individual is picked up by ICE, the individual then has to deal with his (or her) own immigration status. It is not reason for celebration.

To stereotype all Latinos as “illegals” or less than valuable people is just being racist. It is the same as making a derogatory comment about blacks or American Indians. It is the same as believing that “no Irish need apply” or that all people of Japanese descent were spies during World War II.

Racism is defined as a “hatred or intolerance of another race.” There is no place for such beliefs in Willmar.

To fear people just because they speak Spanish or Somali is not needed. Past immigrants have spoken Norwegian, German, Italian, Polish, Russian, French, Vietnamese, Hmong and other languages. Latinos and Somalis are no different than past immigrants.

Willmar and west central Minnesota have a long history of immigration going all the way back to the 19th century. This city has come a long way in embracing the new immigrants in the past decade.

Without new immigrants, the Willmar community would be hurting. Businesses would have fewer available employees, schools would have fewer students and there would be fewer customers.

The new immigrants are valuable employees, bright students and new customers. Willmar and west central Minnesota should continue to embrace our new diversity.

Why would legal hispanics in this country not have papers? Who the hell stereotypes latinos as all being here illegally? No one, nada!

There is no "fear" of Spanish speakers in this country, it is just a matter of non-assimilation out in public. Yes, with the first immigrants there were many languages spoken but they all assimilated to the English language as their primary language in a short period of time. Yes, latinos are different in that respect compared to those first immigrants. Their numbers are a whole lot bigger too, a lot due to the millions that are here illegally so they feel no need to assimilate in that way, nor do many of them desire too.

Wilmar is embracing the "new immigrants"? This is obviously a code word for "illegal aliens". Any community that embraces such are un-American as it is against the laws of this country.

A community that says it couldn't thrive without an illegal alien population is also making un-American remarks. There would be fewer students in their schools? lol, thats a bad thing?

Embracing legal immgrants is one thing but embracing illegal aliens is quite another. What, we can't have diversity unless we have illegal aliens in our communities? This whole article is full of nothing but anti-American hogwash!
