Ripped From Shelves: "Illegal Alien" Halloween Costume

A Halloween costume that has immigrant advocates outraged has been removed from store shelves.Target and Walgreens are among the stores to remove the costume. Even the popular web site Amazon.com has pulled the "illegal alien" from their site, prompting some people to questions whether this an attack on freedom of speech. But is the costume a harmless Halloween joke or are there more serious issues of racism?

Immigrant advocacy groups including the LULAC say the costume is offensive while many comments left on retailer web sites say the costume is good fun.

ya know other than the lady saying people making calls is the reason for the costume taken down, she really didnt give a good enough reason to say why people were offended

I really appreciated the light being shed on the hypocrisy of LULAC concerning freedom of speech.

Her argument for them complaining is really lame. She did not give specifics. Then saying that depicting illegal aliens as extraterrestrials.....PLEASE! So now an extraterrestrial is something bad? Her argument was weak and confusing.

Well just goes to show they do not have anything but a lot of hot air and the race card to back their trash throwing up with.

I don't get why Lulac is so offended. The illegal alien costume looks nothing like a latino or hispanic.

SO true!

The costume is not racisit. It's over of a space alien. Besides people in different parts of the country have dealt with illegal immigration. The costume wasn't directed at any race. There are a lot illegal Russians on the East coast and sometime back on the Terry Anderson Show he talked about illegal Polish immigrants in Indiana.

LULAC's whining has nothing to do with racism. The costume makers could have put an illegal alien sign on a bottle of ketchup and they STILL would have cried racism. It's the term "Illegal Alien" that upsets them.
