Parents of dead girl make plea deal
They will be freed, deported to Mexico

    By Dan Galindo
    JOURNAL REPORTER

A plea deal yesterday allowed a Forsyth County couple accused of abusing their twin 4-month-old daughters, one of whom later died, to get out of jail and be deported to Mexico.

Viridiana Rojas Arrellano, 22, and Victor Lobato Cruz, 24, each entered an Alford plea to two counts of felony child abuse inflicting serious injury.

An Alford plea allows them to maintain their innocence while acknowledging that the state has enough evidence to get a conviction.

A brain injury led to the death of one of the girls, Beverly Lobato Rojas, but a medical examiner was unable to link her death to any child abuse.

Because the case was not ruled a homicide, prosecutors pursued only the child-abuse charges, prosecutor David Hall said.

a dear friend of mine abused his newborn daughter by shaking. He is now serving 5 years in prison and must under go intensive therapy for the better part of his adult life.

his attorney proved that under the burden of stress he simply cracked and tried to quiet the baby using aggression instead of comfort and care. The babies mother had literally been gone for nearly a month and left him in charge of the baby and a 5 y/o boy diagnosed with ADHD which was not his son. She claimed the move was the best for both so she could go to work and back, but he also worked fulltime and a friend came over to watch the children while he was at work.... the child did not die and will suffer no long term effects from the abuse.

How is it that illegals get away with a much much lesser sentence?

What will happen with the other little girl? Is she too being deported with the parents? I hope social services removed the girl from the families custody!

What of the other family members, are they legal or illegal? The entire family, including grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. should be deported if they are residing here illegally. Everyone should go but the other little girl. Sending her with the family would probably place her life in jeopardy. I may be cold and heartless when it comes to lawbreaking illegals, however, when a childs life is in danger I'd rather err on the side of caution.
