Thread: AZTLAN--Short for Aztec Land?

By now I guess many people are familiar with the myth of Aztlan, the alleged ancestral home of the Aztec, and other Indian groups, of Central America. Since they really came from Siberia and Mongolia have they thought about going there?

So the story goes, their god, Huizilopochtli, told them to migrate south. Has he ever told them to go back north? Do the Israelites try to migrate back to Egypt? Fortunately, Cortes organized the other indigenous tribes that the Aztecs had been slaughtering in their human sacrifice rites, and kicked some Aztec butt.

So where did they come up with this Aztlan name? If the "indigenous people" of the Americas had been such a great success there would have been a whole lot more of them since they have had at least ten thousand years to build a civilization. I don't know much about the European setlement of S. America, but I know that N. American Indians were intrigued by the artifacts, culture and religion of the palefaces, and willingly accepted most incursions into lands which they inhabited. It is a sorry commentary that a number of whites were heartless in their treatment of the Natives. Nowadays, only the crazy Indians seriously advocate going back to the old days. Indians probably didn't even have bows and arrows until about 1500, let alone horses, as seen in the movies.

So do we want to go back to Aztec customs? Any volunteers for human sacrifice---just to make the sun rise?

The Spaniards also wiped out the Incas. If I recall correctly some of the other South American countries like Argentina gave them a portion of land to live on.

The land we know as mexico was once inhabited by indians that migrated into that area.. Then came the Spanish. You know what happened next!!! This mixture of indian and Spanish is what we know as mexicans! Which means the mexicans are just as European as we are. I think that is hilarious, inasmuch as they are ranting for all Americans to leave because we are Europeans and have no right to be here.

Don't forget that many of the darker Mexicans have african blood. The spanish had african slaves who married the allow mix blood in Mexico and latin countries. I am part native american and really get tried of hearing the chant that the mexicans are going to take back their lands which they stole from my forefathers. The Mexicans need to go home, they forefathers made the decision that they wanted to live in Mexico instead of staying in America.

I find them ridiculus. These people need to let go of the past.
It does not apply to today and the countries that have formed
and the laws that are in place now.

In one rededication of a great pyramid of the Aztecs somewhere between 10, 000 and 84,000 other indians were sacrificed.

Aztlan is just that- a myth.

On the other hand, 300,000 US citizens and legal immigrants died defending the Americas in World War 2, and a similar number were wounded.. Latin America, except with a relatively small contribution from Mexico, did nothing.
