    The Battle for San Bernardino

    The Battle for San Bernardino

    By Virtual Chicano
    5MAY06

Anti-immigrant racists have forced a vote by the San Bernardino city
council which would make renting to the undocumented a crime and slap a
$1,000.00 fine on landlords, who rent to the undocumented, allow the
police to impound vehicles that have an undocumented passenger as well as
driver, ban day labor centers, force city business to be conducted in
English only and deny permits, contracts and grants to businesses that
    hire undocumented workers.

This is perhaps the most vicious and mean spirited anti-immigrant
proposal that any American city has ever had to deal with in modern times.

The City of San Bernardino now has until the 17th of this month to vote
on the measure, without amendments, but if they reject it, however, it
    will go before the voters.

National alliance for Human Rights founder and UC Riverside college
professor, Dr. Armando Navarro said "San Bernardino is going to become
critical; this could spread." Calling it a racist directive at the
immigrant community , Dr. Navarro has been at the forefront of immigrant
    rights movements in California.

So far, three of the seven city council members have said they will
support the proposal while the city attorney James F. Penman certain
provisions could be successfully challenged in court. Mayor Patrick J.
Morris said he would not take a position pending an economic analysis.

No doubt the mayor understands the purchasing power of 100,000 Latino
residents. But do the voters? These are the same voters who elected
Judith Valles, a Latina, to two terms as mayor immediately preceding Mayor
    Morris.
Should the city council reject the proposal, the voters will then have
the opportunity to decide the outcome within 135 days.

This initiative is divisive and racist in nature, said Dr. Navarro,
We are going to mobilize and do everything we can to defeat it.

And there is something WRONG with this? I cut out the part about anti immigrant because it is a lie for starters. Nobody is against immigrants. And LEGAL immigrants don't need to conduct business in foreign languages or worry about where they can live.

He failed to provide any proof that this plan is racist. All he did was CALL it racist. Well, I call him an idiot. My proof? His own words. He claims the plan is anti-immigrant. How so? It enforces laws in English, the official language of the USA. I would say the plan is pro-American. If immigrants obey the laws, one of which requires learning English, they will be able to benefit from this plan just as every other American citizen will. The author is an idiot because he clearly displays an inability to tell the difference between immigrants and illegal aliens. Any implication that documents should be issued in Spanish is racist, in my opinion, because it calls for special treatment for Spanish-speaking persons who refuse to learn English.

Absurd. The word "Racist" is used by the weak. Can the writer think of maybe just one other reason why cities might be trying to legislate against the illegal immigrants? How about the cities are going broke trying to keep up with the massive costs of harboring illegal aliens.

It reminds me of the time I was 5 yrs old and shopping with my mother. I wanted a toy, but she said, "No, our budget won't allow it." I thought she was being mean. After I grew up and learned about finances, I realized that my mother was not mean at all; it was only a matter of my ignorance.

At least there is one southern California county that is interested in supporting the American Laws!

    Too bad they all aren't!

I live in Orange County - how does one go about getting an illegal immigration proposal? Friends in Orange County, maybe we should think about doing this here. Any thoughts?

I can faithfully validate that the article is truth, that it indeed was sent to La Raza's email list because I personally joined their list for intelligence gathering purposes. Also joined A.N.S.W.E.R's mailing list.

This is good news, this can set a precedent for the rest of the country. We need to Email the San Bernardino Council and show support for this.
