Black Pastors Expected to Endorse Donald Trump

Donald J. Trump will take the next step in his religious outreach effort next week when he announces the endorsement of a group of 100 African-American pastors and religious leaders at his Manhattan headquarters.

The Republican presidential candidate has a private meeting with the group scheduled on Monday before they make their offer of support official, according to his campaign. The endorsement comes as Mr. Trump has faced criticism for stoking racial tension and has seen his support among evangelical Christians start to waver in polls as voters consider Senator Ted Cruz of Texas and Ben Carson.

That tension was evident this week after an activist for the group Black Lives Matter was beaten at a Trump campaign rally, and the billionaire developer said that perhaps the activist deserved to be roughed up. Mr. Trump also angered some when he sent a Twitter message that appeared to play down the recent spate of incidents of police brutality against African-Americans.

However, Mr. Trump has held several meetings with black religious leaders this year as he looks to broaden his appeal, and it appears that he has closed the deal with some of them.

Darrell Scott, the pastor of the New Spirit Revival Center in Ohio, helped organize the coalition of religious leaders and said that after meeting Mr. Trump in person he was convinced that Mr. Trump was the candidate best suited to be president. He also said that the public portrayals of Mr. Trump as a racist and demagogue seemed unfounded after they spoke.

“I was looking for some subtle hints of racism,” Mr. Scott said. “I didn’t see it at all.”

Mr. Scott, who said he was a registered Democrat who had voted for President Obama, said that he had been impressed by Mr. Trump as a leader and that he liked his ideas for improving the economy. He said that when he closed his eyes and listened to all the candidates, he found Mr. Trump to be the most appealing.

Mr. Trump has struggled to connect with some social conservatives because of his flashy lifestyle and the fact that he has held liberal views on some issues. But Mr. Scott said that he found Mr. Trump to be humble before God when they prayed together and that he had confidence in his faith.

The pastor said that Mr. Trump had not made any donations to his congregation. Other leaders who are scheduled to attend were not immediately available Friday to comment.

The group will gather at Trump Towers at 1 p.m. on Monday.

100 Black Religious Leaders to Endorse Donald Trump on Monday

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will announce next week that he is being endorsed by a coalition of 100 black pastors and religious leaders, reports say.

Trump is expected to meet with the coalition of black religious leaders and pastors privately on Monday at Trump Towers in New York City. He will then hold a press conference at 1 p.m. ET to announce their support.

The group of leaders are expected to come from early primary states like South Carolina and Florida.

Trump has held several meetings with evangelical Christians during his presidential campaign.

One of the people who was impressed with Trump after meeting him was Darrell Scott, pastor of the New Spirit Revival Center in Ohio. Scott helped organize the coalition of black leaders who are expected to meet with Trump Monday.

Scott told the New York Times that, after meeting with Trump, he realized that he was the best candidate for president and said that accusations of racism in the media against Trump were false.

“I was looking for some subtle hints of racism,” Mr. Scott said. “I didn’t see it at all.”

Pastor Mark Burns of South Carolina told the Wall Street Journal that he will also be endorsing Trump.

“He’s the best candidate for the Republican nomination” said Burns.

Donald Trump continues to lead in national polls for the Republican presidential nomination, with 28 percent of Republican-leaning voters, followed by Ben Carson with 18 percent. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) are tied with 14 percent.

I really hope this is true. There were some reports over the weekend that some black Pastors weren't endorsing but just meeting to hear his views but I think those were statements from pastors who were declining the meeting to begin with. I hope this works out because we want black Americans to support Trump so he has their support to stop illegal immigration and end this free trade treason that is stealing all our jobs and especially hurting black Americans.

Trump scraps endorsement event after black pastors object

    Associated Press By JILL COLVIN

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has cancelled a press conference in which his campaign said he would be endorsed by as many as 100 black evangelical religious leaders. Many of those invited to the event say they had no intention of endorsing the billionaire businessman and former reality television star.

"It's a miscommunication," said Darrell Scott, the senior pastor of New Spirit Revival Center in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, who has helped to arrange meetings between Trump and black pastors in recent months. Trump's campaign "thought it was going to be a press conference for an endorsement when it wasn't," Scott said Sunday in an interview.

Trump campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks said in an email that Trump would still be holding a private meeting with the group on Monday before departing for a rally in Georgia. She did not respond to additional questions about the cancellation.

Trump has been courting the support of evangelical black clergy members as he works to broaden his appeal in a crowded Republican field. He has held several meetings with pastors from across the country in recent months.

His campaign issued a press release last week that read: "Mr. Trump will be joined by a coalition of 100 African-American evangelical pastors and religious leaders who will endorse the GOP front-runner after a private meeting at Trump Tower."

Scott estimated that more than 100 preachers would nonetheless be meeting with Trump on Monday, despite criticism in an open letter in Ebony magazine from more than 100 black religious leaders.

In the letter, the group wrote that "Trump's racially inaccurate, insensitive and incendiary rhetoric should give those charged with the care of the spirits and souls of black people great pause." They also expressed concern that the meeting on Monday would "give Trump the appearance of legitimacy among those who follow your leadership and respect your position as clergy."

Earlier this month, a black protester was roughed up by Trump supporters at a rally in Birmingham, Alabama. Trump said after the incident, "Maybe he should have been roughed up because it was absolutely disgusting what he was doing."

Trump also drew criticism recently for re-tweeting an image of inaccurate statistics that vastly over-represented the number of whites killed by blacks.

That's a real shame. Well, I hope they have a good meeting and maybe later on they'll be more comfortable when they know him better and perhaps some will endorse him for all the good he'll do when he's President to create jobs, stop illegal and excess immigration and reverse this free trade madness.

Trump shouldn't "retweet" crap, because it looks like he's tweeting it when he's not, and he needs to respect protesters even when they're disrupting his event. After all, that is what protesters do. Just have security safelyescort them out.

Many of the black pastors I've encountered in politics and elections are for sale and they will never break from the Democrat GOTV money machine.

I think this was a DNC setup event. Many smaller local black pastors and communities have started to sway towards Trump which makes it sound like these big shot's doing so may be true. Yet in the end it was likely a setup aiming for this kind of outcome with a big chiding from the liberal far left money hungry bogus *religious* left to try and sway the smaller black communities and smaller local black leaders back to the left in a stupid political stunt.

Most of the pastors that attended said they have either endorse Trump or are considering it. Some wanted apologies for things Trump has said which of course didn't happen and won't, so they'll have to come terms with their issues on those things, most of which are either misreporting or misinterpreting by the media. All in all, a good thing today. Historic, has never happened before with a GOP candidate, so that's a good thing in and of itself.
