John Boehner has apparently picked a successor.

According to The Washington Post’s Robert Costa, the Ohio congressman plans on personally urging Rep. Paul Ryan to enter the House Speaker race.

Boehner suspended the House Leadership election on Thursday after current Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy withdrew his name from the race.

Ryan, whom Talking Points Memo reports planned on supporting McCarthy in Thursday’s election, has distanced himself from the Speaker’s chair.

“While I am grateful for the encouragement I’ve received, I will not be a candidate,” he stated on Thursday. “I continue to believe I can best serve the country and this conference as Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee.”
