McCain: Trump 'often poorly informed' and 'impulsive,' and Congress doesn't 'answer to' him

Sen. John McCain argues for a return to regular order in Congress.
In a Washington Post op-ed, he says it is particularly important because Congress serves with Trump, who is "often poorly informed" and "can be impulsive."
McCain also says Congress does not answer to Trump and needs to be a check on him.

Sen. John McCain offered sharp criticism of President Donald Trump in a op-ed Friday in which he called for Congress to return to its regular order.

Writing in The Washington Post, the Arizona Republican argued that Congress should seek policy compromise following a GOP Obamacare repeal process that he repeatedly slammed. McCain, a frequent critic of Trump, said bipartisanship in Congress is particularly important because Trump is president.

"But we have to respect each other or at least respect the fact that we need each other," McCain wrote. "That has never been truer than today, when Congress must govern with a president who has no experience of public office, is often poorly informed and can be impulsive in his speech and conduct."

"We must respect his authority and constitutional responsibilities. We must, where we can, cooperate with him. But we are not his subordinates. We don't answer to him. We answer to the American people. We must be diligent in discharging our responsibility to serve as a check on his power. And we should value our identity as members of Congress more than our partisan affiliation," the senator added.

McCain, 81, was one of three Republican senators who voted against a last-ditch GOP attempt to repeal Obamacare in July, shortly after he was diagnosed with brain cancer. He argued against the hurried Republican-led process to overhaul the U.S. health-care system that moved forward without relevant committee hearings.

Since taking office in January, Trump has sometimes spoken of Republican members of Congress as if they serve him and owe him loyalty.

He has also apparently improvised some consequential comments, like his threat to bring "fire and fury" on North Korea.

Next year, this Congress is going to be judged on one thing: results.

    1. passing needed anti-illegal immigration legislation and funding increases
    2. preliminary funding for the needed sections and repairs to border wall
    3. repealing Obamacare mandates and tax penalties
    4. passing business and corporate tax rate cuts to 15% to bring our good jobs and industries home
    5. reducing legal immigration numbers by at least 50% to put American Workers First

So it's September now, and you've collectively done nothing except attack our President and investigate a phony Russia Collusion Hoax.

For 535 members of the US Congress, that is a pathetic response, a despicable example of "all talk, no action" Swamp Creatures, and the epitome of why Donald J Trump was elected the 45th President of the United States to clean it up and fix our country.

If McCain answers to the AMERICAN people...not illegal aliens...he would shut his trap and do what WE voted Trump to do and follow HIS agenda.

This is NOT about you McCain, Ryan, McConnell and Graham...we want you voted out!

The only thing you should "discharge" is yourself from public office and step down.

These career politicians don't care anymore what he people in this country want. They don't even hear our voices any more. We pay their salary but the lobbyist and big money own them. We need to get people in office that have not become deaf to the peoples voices.
