"The New Case Against Immigration", a book

I was SO pleased to see Mark Krikorian has a book coming out. I ran across it at amazon.com,
    The New Case Against Immigration

I went to two bookstores to see what I could do to have the book carried by them, and displayed prominently, ... whatever. In both stores I had modest success.

One store had none on order, but the manager, faced with a real person standing there who had an interest in the book, decided to stock it. He put in an order for a few copies. He made it clear that it was not going to be a big order, and I shrugged, accepting this small victory.

At the other store, the manager was a legal immigrant. She quizzed me as to Krikorian's position on the issue. My summary did not sit well with her, but despite that she bumped an existing order up from two copies to five. I had scouted out the New Books rack and had intended to ask for a top shelf position for New Case Against. But since she seemed to be going against her personal position, I let it be.

Others who wish to visit their local bookstores and ask the managers to put in an order for New Case Against should be encouraged by these responses. In both cases it's now more likely that casual browsers will encounter the book, and that those who come to the store looking for it will go home with a copy.

I will check this book out -thanks for the head's up.

And what a very good idea. We can request that our libraries purchase it as well. Our library is very good about getting most of what is requested.

Thanks for the library tip. Turns out my public library takes requests for purchases online. Done, without even leaving my keyboard!

They wanted ISBN, publisher, and other details. All were available on Amazon, so it was easy. But the bookstores were easier. Neither of them needed anything more than the author's last name. All I needed was to spell Krikorian. I was ready with the title, but didn't have to give it.

Maybe the library will buy it. Hope so.

An update. Two neighboring towns give library cards to non-residents. Once I had cards, I could ask for them to buy Krikorian's book. I did, and one has replied that they will!
