Border Patrol Arrests Gang Member and Sex Offenders

Tucson, Ariz. – Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents arrested several felons recently including an individual convicted of homicide, an MS-13 gang member and sex offenders.

A majority of the felons were sex offenders convicted of crimes against children: sex with a minor under age 3, continuous sexual abuse of a child, and child cruelty (possible injury/death). However, some of the convictions also involved adult victims: homicide, rape (victim unconscious), and aggravated assault with a weapon.

The subjects from Mexico, Guatemala and El Salvador, were previously charged, convicted and removed from the U.S. Last month, however, these criminals were apprehended for illegal re-entry into the country or smuggling. Some had warrants for their arrest due to probation violations pertaining to their previous crimes. The illegal immigrants were processed for prosecution and removal proceedings in accordance with Tucson Sector prosecution guidelines.

In addition to enforcing immigration laws, the Border Patrol contributes to a safer America by removing dangerous criminals from the country. All individuals apprehended by the Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks using the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System, a vital tool that ensures illegal immigrants with criminal histories are positively identified.

CBP also welcomes assistance from the community. Citizens can report suspicious activity to the Border Patrol by calling (877) 872-7435 toll free. All calls will be answered and remain anonymous.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
