(CBS4) HOMESTEAD Two Homestead teens were hospitalized in critical condition after a Sunday afternoon gathering with friends turned into a violent brawl. Police are still trying to figure out why.

Police said a15-year-old was hanging out with 5 other friends at gathering spot, located at 13600 SW 312th Street in Homestead, near the South Dade Labor Camp

At about 4:30 Sunday afternoon, two cars pulled up and witnesses told police about 10 teens jumped out.

" A total of 10 came out with bats and started beating the individuals who were already in the park," said Capt. Tom Foglia, spokesperson for the Homestead police department.

That attack was apparently not enough for the second group, police said, because witnesses claim some of the teens ran back to the car, and returned with guns.

When someone in the group of teens being beaten also pulled out a gun, shots were fired. When the bullets stopped flying, two teens were hurt.

The younger of the two was taken by air-rescue to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson memorial Hospital, his aunt told CBS4's Natalia Zea
A 17-year-old boy believed to be part of the attacking group was also shot and was hospitalized.

The rest of the teens scattered, and all police have to go on are descriptions of the two cars believed to be involved, a red Ford F-150 pickup truck and a red Pontiac Grand Prix.

Police have yet to release the names of the two hospitalized teens, and are still trying to determine what set off the brawl.
