Early Poll Results Suggest GOP Victories in Six States and Some Unexpected Tight Races

By Kyle Becker (52 mins ago) | Elections

The early (really early) polls suggest Senate wins in: Kentucky, Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas and Georgia.

Sean Noble @seannobledc Follow Early exit polls show GOP wins in KY, AR, CO, IA, KS, GA - if those hold, GOP Senate majority is certain. Watch VA - closer than expected.
    5:58 PM - 4 Nov 2014

In addition, there’s a horse race in the Virginia Governor’s race between former RNC Chair Ed Gillespie and Democrat Mark Warner:

Ellen L. Carmichael @ellencarmichael Follow According to exit polls, there's only a point separating Gillespie and Warner. Oh. My. God.
    6:38 PM - 4 Nov 2014

Kentucky Senate: Mitch McConnell is clearly projected to become Senate Majority Leader after defeating challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes. It’s 55%-42% with 17% of the vote in. Obama only won 4 counties in this state in 2012.

Arkansas: Tom Cotton is facing off against Mark Pryor in this Senate race. The polls close at 8:30 p.m. in Arkansas.
Colorado: GOP led by 7 points in early ballot returns, potentially a good sign for Cory Gardner in his race against incumbent Senator Mark Udall.
Iowa: Joni Ernst is taking on Bruce Bailey Braley for the Senate position, which would take over for exiting Senator Tom Harkin.
Kansas: The nominal Independent Orman (who would likely caucus with Democrats) is a serious challenger to unseat Republican Senator Pat Roberts. But it’s as close as it gets.
Georgia: An extremely close race between Nunn and Perdue. Perdue has a slight edge 49%-48% in exit polls. The polls close at 7 pm.
In addition, both Tim Scott and Lindsey Graham are projected to retain their seats as Senators in South Carolina.
It’s very early, but Scott Brown is ahead of Jeanne Shaheen in New Hampshire 60%-40%.
Stay tuned for election coverage as we move through the night.
