Well, they haven't owned it since they lost the war and SOLD them, with the exception of Texas, to the US. Mexico wasn't even a country before September 27, 1821, it belonged to the European country of Spain. It is not our fault that the Mexican government has been corrupt and abused it's citizens.

I don't see the French trying to colonize the Louisiana Purchase.

I was correcting this mistake in the article.

I was born in Texas and lived there for a couple of years in Jr. High. Way back in the dark ages, Texas history was required in Texas schools so I get twitchy over the reconquista stuff. One thing that doesn't get mentioned very often is that Mexico solicited settlers to come to Texas and one of the reasons was that it was such a dangerous territory. Texians, both anglo and Tejano fought side by side for Texas independence against the Oligarch Santa Anna.
